Supreme Commander GONE GOLD
by Maarten Goldstein, Jan 18, 2007 5:18am PSTTHQ has issued this press release, announcing that the Gas Powered Games strategy game Supreme Commander has gone gold. The game will ship to stores worldwide February 20.
In the 37th century the galaxy has been ripped apart by three warring factions, each vying to eradicate the universe of all opposition and end the 1000 year Infinite War. The next generation world of Supreme Commander brings an all new level of scope and scale to the RTS genre, establishing a new benchmark in strategic and tactical RTS gaming. Experience a new level of control over countless land, sea and air units, and use the innovative zoom function -- scrolling outward to see the entire Theatre of War or inward to focus on the action -- to command your forces to victory. Developed by legendary RTS developer Chris Taylor, Supreme Commander offers a unique storyline, innovative gameplay and infinite online multiplayer battles.

How scalable is it?

But I think they just tried to do too much... the game feels like a concept to me and not a solid game! It really feels like they tried to make it do 1000 things kinda good. Maybe this isn't the style game for me.. and I even really enjoyed TA back in the day. But it just takes too long to have a good battle. Maybe its just I'm much busier now a days and don't have 2+ hours for a match. It takes way to long to work your way up the Tech Tree to get the good units.
Hate to say it after reading the C&C3 Hands-On on IGN, it seems like EA actually nailed this game!! And the new Alien race looks fucking awesome!

I'm still going to wait and see on SC though, maybe they have changed enough over the past few months since the beta.. but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I wonder how long it will be before Blizzard gets the hint that they can't sap WC3/SC anymore, and actually make a new RTS game instead of sitting on WoW, their cash cow.
Have ANY of you tried the most up to date revision or are you all talking about the months old beta versions? it runs just fine on my PC.
In a two player game, with both me and my friend having decent systems and internet connections, the game comes to a crawl with about 1500 units. I can't even imagine what an 8 player game with 4000-8000 units would be like. I'd probably quit from all the lag. Note that buildings are considered units as well.
In earlier versions of the beta, AI would take over for players who dropped out. They then removed that because the AI would rape the game and it would become extremely slow. They never had beta testers test the AI since then, so one can only hope it's improved.
Also, the ability to save a game is still missing. I guess they'll be adding that in a patch. And the GPGNet program could use some touching up. I mean, it functions, but it could use some polish.

At least that's what I'm hoping, since the gameplay was fantastic... it was a fresh new experience in RTSing. I hope this version will run faster, though I'm getting a new PC in a couple of months anyway.

The question is, is your hard disk thrashing when the game starts to slow down?
(Lack of memory) or is it something else?
It could be CPU / Memory or GPU - judging from the description it sounds to me like memory thrashing.

Awesomeness: Scope, graphics, gameplay, real nukes, actual strategic planning
Not Awesomeness: You can only play 30-40 minute games before it becomes a slideshow. I run a 2.25mhz dual core Opteron with 2gb of ram, and an 1800xt w/ 512mb. Could it support 4:4? Probably not, but it should run 1:1 ok....

I'm going to be getting this when it come out no doubt, the single player will be fun, and I'll never get tired of the spectacle of the T4 units, but I really hope they've massively improved whatever is causing the tremendous time dilation. Every other aspect of the beta was ship shape IMO.

That means I'll have to go to FutureShop or Walmart for it, cause EB won't have it on shelves until Feb 22-23rd.....
Just like everything else EB does....
