More On The Crossing
by Maarten Goldstein, Jan 12, 2007 7:48am PSTFiringSquad reports on the latest Games for Windows magazine featuring a preview of The Crossing, the Source engine powered action game (which we mentioned here late in December) from Dark Messiah of Might & Magic developer Arkane Studios . The game is said to center around the city of Paris, which has fallen into disarray following the collapse of the French government. Thanks to some kind of parallel universe phenomenon the Knights Templar are now running the show. The Crossing also features a mix of singleplayer and multiplayer elements, where AI can be taken over by online players. The game is currently very early in development.

Admittedly, the idea is not an easy one to get working right, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't even try! If nobody ever steps out of the box to try and innovate we'll be stuck playing Quake and Half-Life remakes for the rest of our lives. That doesn't sound too great to me.
You can all keep tooting your little negativity horns, I'm going to applaud the developer. Playing against live opponents is 10x the rush of playing against AI. If they can make it work in a story-based game, then awesome! If not, then they will have at least paved the way for another developer to try again. Go, go Arkane!
