Competing against Burning Crusade surely can't be a smart move?

In any case I thought beta testers said it needed more polish before going live?

yeah, theyre idiots. BC is not only a sure sell for the millions of active players but its also going to bring a large number of people BACK to wow who had their accounts inactive, werent playing etc.

If SoE was smart (lol) they'd give Vanguard another 3-6 months to not only give it some extra polish (though from what I understand it needs a more than polish) but let the BC storm blow over somewhat.

I think a lot of people that are looking to buy the expansion are not the type of people playing Vanguard. I know because I'm one of those people. I can't stand the graphics in WoW. The gameplay is fun (though simple) but I never could get past the graphics. This is where Vanguard succeeds. Plus, the crafting and diplomacy abilities are really great in Vanguard.

Also, the game does need more polish no question. They are coming far in a short time, though, as I'm seeing modest speed increases in just the past few days.

I think when people are flocking back to WoW to play BC....the threads are going to read like this...

OMG IM IN A QUE FOR 2 HOURS!

Seriously, there are a decent number of folks who will stick with Vangaurd through its rough launch. I have no misconceptions that it's going to be smooth.

I'm curious about your attraction to Vanguard's graphics. My roommate got into the beta and I thought he was playing EQ2. The art direction is horribly generic, and on his relatively respectable rig (but it's not an uber gaming machine by any means) it ran like total ass. Obviously optimizations are coming and they're looking years into the future, assuming the game has that kind of legs, but I couldn't get past the dull generic world and character design.

I just like the look and feel of the game. It's purely personal taste.

Same. I also like the way eq2 looks. WoW is nice, but I got tired of the way it looked after a while.

People who choose what game to play based on its graphics deserve to be fed all of Sony Online Entertainment's bugs, imho. :p

I'm sorry but that's really short sighted in this day and age. An MMO especially needs to look good because you're investing a huge amount of time into it. Nobody wants to look at shit smeared against the wall for 4 to 5 hours a day.

So the game STILL looks great after 60 levels? By that point I would be much more into the gameplay then what the game looked like. Graphics can only hold my attention for so long.

immersiveness, of which visuals are a critical component of, is a big part of many peoples enjoyment of games.
