The Emmys Keep on Coming

14
Not to be left out of the somewhat bizarre glut of Emmy Awards heading to game-related firms and individuals this year, Microsoft has announced that it too has won an Emmy. Like the other game industry recipients, it won its award for a broad technological contribution, in this case DirectX. Specifically, the company was recognized for Pioneering Work in Near and Real-Time Fully Programmable Shading Via Modern Graphics Processors. AMD and NVidia Corporation were also honored with the award (you know, the one for Pioneering Work in Near and Real-Time Fully Programmable Shading Via Modern Graphics Processors).

Just to make sure you're fully caught up on your game industry Emmy recipients, Sony received another Emmy, this one for its Xross Media Bar menu interface used in both PSP and PS3, as well as its upcoming Bravia Internet TV service.

Gah, the xross is a terrible interface (never mind a terrible name)

While its ok for a portable device like the psp, when you have something that will contain a LOT of media, something like the xross just becomes unmanageably unwieldy. Even the 360 struggles to display all its stuff in a nice format, and it has a far better interface.

Agreed. Even on something small like the PSP I find it quite lame. It's an awful UI design that is difficult to navigate and difficult to for the mind/eye to parse quickly. That it has won an award reinforces how clueless the Emmys appear to me about computers.
