First Post!

Well, we're a couple of days into 2007 and the world hasn't exploded yet so I guess we're doing alright.

Once you get the timing down, you can push through the last 20% or so of most lifebars, which is generally the most dangerous part.

A lot of the later bosses throw up a shield that blocks damage for a while towards the end of their life, but if you can nail them with a big enough Mist combo, you can take them out before it gets to that point.

But I end up using them when I start the battles because I can't get my characters MP to stay at full (gambits will lead them to cast Cure during the course of battle)

Early in the game they serve as a method to defeat bosses without getting your hands dirty (assuming you can chain them enough to get the concurance attack).

Later in the game, they really only serve as a way to get around certain enemy abilitys (pallings near death for some bosses).

I sucked at chaining, never could get any other massive explosion beyond Inferno. :(

I once chained 8 and still got 1 inferno, pissed me off.

After about 30 hrs in I stopped using them. I like consistent melee damage better. Plus that Quickening shit wastes all your mana you could use for things like buffs and healing. Berserk+Haste+Bravery+Bubble is an extremely powerful combo.

use R2 button - but pause before hitting it again. If you just keep hitting it over and over too fast you wont get a chance to register the results and hit the right button

If you are far enough along to have bravery and bubble - then you won't find much use for quickenings.

I feel about espers the way you feel about quickenings - i really didn't see the point in ever calling them - even ultima (I didn't get zodiarc)

It's how you skip half of boss fights. Beat the boss down to ~1/2 normally, then Mist chain 'em into the ground. If the first one doesn't kill it, swap in fresh party members and repeat the process.

Most of the bosses seem to get *much* stronger towards ~1/3 of their life, so killing 'em outright with the Mist chains saves you from having to deal with it.

Honestly, it's also the most interaction you get to have with the game. Properly setup Gambits make the game basically play itself, with you just guiding the party from enemy to enemy. Boss fights are really no different (although you may swap a few Gambit slots here and there to counter specific abilities/effects).

This is the first FF game I've played that I've ever been truly bored with.
