Microsoft Revamps Xbox 360 Warranty
by Chris Remo, Dec 22, 2006 8:10am PSTSince Xbox 360's release last November, the internet has seen countless reports of various hardware issues experienced by early adopters. Due to these continued concerns, Microsoft compensated owners for the repair costs of faulty pre-2006 consoles. Criticisms of Xbox 360's reliability continued, however, and a lawsuit was filed this month. Now, Microsoft has taken what it likely hopes is the conclusive step in repairing a damaged quality reputation with the gaming community and satisfying existing Xbox 360 owners, including those who have already faced hardware issues as well as those who fear they still might. As of today, the company has retroactively extended the machine's warranty from the included 90 days of coverage to a full year. All Xbox 360 owners now possess a warranty that covers system problems for the first year following purchase. As a result, any owners who were forced to pay for repairs within a year of purchasing the system will automatically receive a refund by mail in approximately ten weeks. "Customer satisfaction is a central focus and priority for the Xbox 360 system," said corporate marketing VP Jeff Bell. "In addition to jaw-dropping features such as high-definition graphics, an amazing catalog of over 160 games, and social online and entertainment experiences on Xbox Live., the Xbox 360 system now offers this extended warranty upgrade. It is truly the industry's most compelling home entertainment offering." Xbox 360 owners who experience problems during their warranty period are encouraged to contact Xbox support. Let's hope our buddy Silent Wolf gets a fatty check.

Anyways, since I've owned it for over a year, I'll still end up paying the repair cost ($170 Canadian just to send it in to get looked at), but its good to know that lots of others will be covered.
Too bad cause other then that I was satisfied with my 360, no crashes or anything.

ive been kinda sweating because i never paid the extra $65 or whatever it was for the extra warranty
they did the right thing. with as many failures as they have, this is more reasonable then 90 days of "hopefully not getting an f'd up xbox"
also, i sure as hell hope they dont break mine any time soon with a software update ... i would be so pissed to lose all my saved games ... oh man =/
also, poor wolfie :(
At least I don't have the red rings of death.

One step closer to diving into the new generation. Good move, MS.
Do they ask for your receipt? I can't find that for the life of me.

I'm on my 2nd 360 (returned the first after it failed), and the replacement 360 has hard locked on me at least once.
Does anyone else experience overheating issues with standard play? My old 360 would lock up - seemingly due to heat problems - while playing XBL Arcade Games, even.

I also received a written letter that was signed and had a personal written P.S. note at the bottom thanking me for staying with Microsoft and that they valued me as a customer.
I've had to send in my xbox 5 times over the last year. I'm hoping this latest one will continue to work flawlessly as it has.
I was very very impressed, and needless to say I'm an xbox fanboy again because of that customer service regardless of the issues I've had the last year.

So far Microsoft has been very smart and very aggressive against Sony. I think PS3 may actually be #3 this generation... What a turn around from a few years back.
