Daikatana, Where Are You?

Salon took a look at the history of Daikatana, in the article The Waiting Game. It includes a couple of quotes from various people, including Romero himself and also covers the Daikatana release party that happened December 17. We're still waiting... Thanks loony.

<snip> Kennedy thinks so: "I still believe Daikatana will be extremely successful. It is one of the most anticipated games on the market."

Even Marcus is willing to concede. He'll buy the game when it comes out, though "only out of an odd form of respect for what Romero attempted with it."

  • Give me one good reason why i\'d want to buy this game ?

I follow almost every FPS game through dev but no game has lacked as much interest as Daikatana for me at least...

I loaded the demo on my drive a couple months ago curious to see what it was like (i had forgotten since the first time i played it like a year ago) and god damn it sucked ass ! I mean that in the most respectful way possible...

This game reminds me more of quake graphics then quake 2...they are just horrid...

Ion Storm has to do some serious p1mping for their games...no other company has lacked as much p1mpage that I am aware of...or maybe there are and i\'m just not aware of them :)

  • Daikatana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Daikatana has one good thing going for it, and it has nothing to do with Daikatana. It\'s another game called SOLDIER OF FORTUNE. Unless I\'m wrong, very few singleplayer games are scheduled to be released right now that use a Q2-enhanced engine, except those two.

It\'s kind of funny, because the SoF demo looks great, plays great, and will probably make it to retail shelves before Daikatana. Judging by how nifty SoF looks with a much shorter dev. time, Daikatana may stand a chance of bagging several satisfied customers - customers that are in direct competition with SoF game sales! I hate to say it, but if SoF can pull off a respectable sales curve in it\'s first year with players that enjoy using the Q2 engine for singleplayer fun, Daikatana stands a chance of doing the exact same thing, with the exact same customers.

NEWSFLASH: I saw a huge Daikatana cardboard cutout at Fry\'s last night, which wasn\'t there before. This game just might make it...

    Thanks!
