WoW Expansion Dated, Subscriber Base Grows
by Chris Remo, Nov 09, 2006 10:28am PSTBlizzard today announced the official release date for its recently delayed (story) expansion pack, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. The game will ship January 16, 2007 in North America and Europe, with other territories to follow shortly. While the basic expansion will sell for $39.99, a limited edition Collector's Edition will be available for $69.99. That set will include the standard CD version as well as a DVD version, an art book, an exclusive in-game pet, a documentary DVD, a starter deck and extra cards for the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game (update: Blizzard has clarified that the set includes two starter decks and three exclusive cards), a map-adorned mouse pad, and a soundtrack CD. In other World of Warcraft news, Blizzard announced that its subscriber base for the game has reached a staggering 7.5 million worldwide. The company was sure to note that this figure does not include cancelled or expired subscriptions, or expired pre-paid cards. It includes current subscribers as well as users who have logged into the game from internet cafes within the past 30 days.

I know it's business, and people will pay the money so they easily CAN do it. And I know that WoW doesn't need to release more content so people keep playing (at least in the near future). I'm just curious why people aren't even slightly annoyed by it. Is it because you already pay some 10-15 bucks a month, so 40 doesn't seem like much?

looking at the current expansion, the new continent, the new races, new abilities and such, i kinda felt like giving it a try. not to go from 60 to 70, but to rather start a whole new character, blood elf most likely, and maybe a warrior; and all of this preferebly in a new server, which i bet they'll be opening once the expansion is released.
i had a 60 rogue but warriors own. The idea of starting all over, doing stuff which i already did in the past is boring. To have new things, it kinda feels like playing wow for the first time.
then again this game is evil. and gold aint cheap

I'm not complaining, as I have no interest in the collector's edition, and you and Blizzard know that if the collectors edition required the donation of a kidney, many many WoW players would be gleefully knifing themselves in the EB, so more power to them.
To Blizzard, not the knifees.
