Good interview, looking forward to part 2.

The Black and White 2 thing is a pure example of pre release spin that has jaded me in the past. Just goes to show you can't trust anybody, even Molyneux when it comes to the hype.

"Even Molyneux"? This guy rarely delivers these days. And when I say "these days" I mean about 10 years. Dungeon Keeper was the last golden egg that he laid, and it's looking like it might be his last. I hope he proves me wrong.

        This is pure truth.

        B&W
        Fable
        B&W 2
        The Movies

All jokes compared to what he promised.

I disagreed. The Movies was exactly what he promised. Thats why it was so weak. Talking with some of the developers there, there was an earlier version that was much more fun and more of a game instead of a movie making package.

Yeah, he hasn't done anything worthwhile since his Bullfrog days. One's past successes should carry them only so far, especially when everything you've done after that is OK at best.

This is pretty much true of any game develop that gets "really" rich. Molyneux, Richard Garriort, Sid Meyer, etc. I think after they reach the status where they have so much money they have no real problems, they just don't care anymore, and they lose what made them good developers in the first place.

I very much doubt they "don't care anymore." If anything what happens is they get overambitious.

And I don't know how you could claim Sid Meier doesn't care. He still hand-programs the prototypes for Firaxis games on his own.

Hahaha. Yeah, sure he does. I do that for the prototypes of the games I work on, too.

It's more accurate to say especially Molyneaux. He is the king of the hype machine.
