Valve News Update
The latest Steam marketing message is up, mentioning, among other things, that the final update for the Counter-Strike: Source weapon pricing beta has been released. The new CS:S is set to go public November 1st, with the first price correction happening on the 6th.

the p228 is like 400 now. yay. but the deagle is like 1200. boooo.

The idea is though, that the next price change will bring the deagle down in price as people buy it less. It really is an interesting experiment. I wonder if the system will ever reach stability, where the prices really don't change much week to week. I guess then the prices then would be an accuracte reflection of how useful the weapons are, at least that's what they're hoping.

It will be interesting to see if the price has a curve that looks like this - http://www.bikethink.com/Decaying_Vibration.PNG
After time the fluctuation should get less and less, so as the price fluctuates less the amount of people who buy it fluctuates less. I'm sure there will be certain points that make a bigger difference. Like when the price of a Deagle go downs enough to be bought in the first round, the purchases will go way up and then the price shoots back up.
Does anyone know if valve will be putting any trend graphs on their weapons market site? If not, I'm sure other sites will pop up with details graphs and analysis of buying trends.-

If the prices reach stability, then the weapon prices will be perfectly balanced against their usefulness. As mentioned in another post, this might allow Valve to add new weapons into the game with their idea of a good price, and within a couple weaks the new weapon (and all the rest) will be price balanced again. I'm not sure the system will ever reach stability, but it'll be an interesting thing to keep an eye on.

It'd be cool, but I don't think they'll have anything more than they already have... which is nice, but only covers like one week.

The deagle is under priced already. I welcome the change.
I actually think this is a good idea. Let the market decide the prices. It makes more sense that way and it's better for when and if they add more weapons to the game. If it sucks it'll be cheap, if it's too good then it'll be expensive. Better than Valve making something too good then setting a cheap ass price so that people whore the shit out of it.
