Memory / RAM upgrade Menz or paging Mr. Mn3m0n1c

Did I just kill my performance by upgrading? I had two sticks of 512 ram configed like so: ===== is 512 stick, ++++++ is 1Gb stick

After I installed my 1 Gb stick it looks like this:

Upon rebooting, I got a Dos screen message that I cant recall what it said, and like a dumbass I hit the spacebar too fast and it went away. I did a little research and found http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-011965.htm

So, am I now forced to run in single channel mode? Whats the drawbacks if so? Halp me shack, your my only hope. =)
