Through a stroke of luck, I may be getting stuck with about 150 square feet of retail-level office space next to my wife's photography studio. Since we've sourced all kinds of custom photo products (large prints, canvases, tile thingies, etc.) for her business, we decided we may as well split out the photo printing stuff and sell straight to the public through my new business.
This will be in a small, rich community where people don't know how to use Shutterfly or the grocery store to get their 4x6's done, let alone get large prints of pictures they like, but they don't mind shelling out $$$ for a full-service somebody to do things for them.
But I need a good name. The wife suggested "Memory Lane Prints" or "Memory Lane Printing", but damned if I'm going to let that happen. I want something immediately descriptive (involving keywords like "Photos" "Printing" "Custom" or whatever), plus a catchy and more unique moniker.
Any suggestions?

fascinating article about loss of dynamic range in music.
For the past 10 or so years, artists have been increasing the overall loudness of pop and rock albums, using ever increasing degrees of compression during mastering, altering the properties of the music being recorded. Quiet sounds and loud sounds are now squashed together, decreasing the recording's dynamic range, raising the average loudness as much as possible.
We're looking at the wave forms generated by a number of modern albums. Sound waves should look like what they're called: waves, with sharp peaks and valleys. But the music we're looking at is all peak. It's like looking at a butte or a brick.
"These square waves are a very unnatural occurrence," Wofford says. "It sounds wrong to the ear. You can't hear detail."

have you ever done a meet and greet / club drive?
How are they organized? You guys all met up at some IHOP or something and then drove some backroads to point B and then went home? I'm trying to find a FAQ or something for a car club meet and greet type deal, anyone? I've never been to one as I've never been in a car club.
I thought it would be cool to host one for shackers. We could all meet up in our respective vehicles somewhere in the bay area and go drive around mount diablo or tam or something, or end up somewhere to get pizza.
thoughts, questions, concerns?

A hockey puck on a frozen pond with an initial speed of 20.9 m/s stops after sliding a distance of 225.9 m. Calculate the average value of the coefficient of kinetic friction between the puck and the ice.
Can someone help me with this and give me an explanation?

I popped two caffeine pills this morning, totaling 220mg, then I had a triple espresso in the afternoon, then two more pills around 3, and now I'm having a double espresso.
Am I gonna die? :( I seem to have a really high tolerance because I don't feel much, but I'm just wondering if there might be crazy stuff happening that I'm not noticing.

Hello! Today we talk about Sony’s recent announcement to make the Playstation 3 cheaper in Japan than in North America, Microsoft announces a new warranty plan for all Xbox 360’s made in 2005, A Professor from the University of Texas at Dallas, Mihai Nadin, is interesting in making games for the elderly (Brain Games -sounds familiar right?), Elizabeth reviews a talking Rabbit (seriously!), and of course we talk about what we’re currently playing which includes Gauntlet, Star Fox DS, Lego Star Wars II, and Halo 2.

America, FUCK YEAH!! ;P
Me playing against 2 CPU opponents, China & Africa. I nuked them both in a first strike with a sub launched follow up. They both launched at me. :(
I went directly for population centers. Once the computer opponents saw the incoming ICBMs, they launched at me instead of riding it out and keeping the silos in ABM mode. They also made the mistake of targeting my silos, airbases and radars instead of going for the cities.
Rules for beating the crap out of the computer:
1. Launch 1st against their population centers. They will nearly always strike back instead of defending, leaving their cities wide open.
2. If the CPU launches first, ride it out and then nuke the crap out of them.
That's it.

If I run RCN's speed test with my computer plugged straight into the modem, I get 10 mb/s (which is as it should it be). When I run the same speedtest but connect through my router, I get 2 mb/s. I take it this means my router sucks? I imagine you'll always lose some speed with a router, but that's insane. I have a pretty generic 4-port Belkin with 802.11g.
