I hope they do and they give the big prize to the best game/mod and not the one that will get their engine into a new genre.

Didn't Red Orchestra move to steam? That should teach them there were many better mods out there, but they wanted the WW2 one.

They are still using the same engine, just selling it over steam.
Also, Red Orchestra was by far the best mod in the final, it was the most feature complete, had the most polished gameplay and was a ton of fun. I highly doubt their descision had anything to do with the fact it was WW2.

        - Red Orchestra was by far the best mod – it was not the best mod.
        - it was the most feature complete -- so, what does that have to do with being the best mod? This was not a "complete the most you can" competition
        - had the most polished gameplay -- see previous
        - was a ton of fun -- this is a matter of opinion

There were better, more innovative, game concepts -- with your criteria no matter what the group with the most time and resources to poor into it would win (for the most part).

Alien Swarm should have won. That game was creepy and awesome all at once.

I can understand why RO won, but man, I wanted AS to win so much. Not only it was very cool and much fun, but also something new (even if it was a 'remake'). The only downside of the whole thing was that the official single player campaigns were kinda short.

I guess the silver lining is that Alien Swarm have landed a deal and we'll see Alien Swarm 2 for sale on Steam when it's finished. Also, it looks sex on the Source engine.

All the finalists in the last MSU contest got excellent press coverage from all the big sites, something that is normally very hard for modders.

            ps: play Dystopia! :)

Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 (an Unreal engine game set in WW2) was released three months before the winners of the MSUC were announced. So there was already a WW2 Unreal-based game on the shelves at that time.
