Double Fine Signs with Vivendi Games
by Chris Remo, Aug 31, 2006 4:10pm PDTGamasutra has dug up a lengthy Vivendi Games presentation from June, detailing the company's assets, acquisitions, and other strategies in the near future. Along with plenty of details regarding the success of subsidiary Blizzard's World of Warcraft, the presentation lists six external developers currently working with Vivendi. All of these studios have been previously known to have games in the works for Vivendi, with the exception of one: San Francisco-based Psychonauts (PS2, Xbox, PC) developer Double Fine Productions. The studio was founded in 2000 by former LucasArts designer Tim Schafer, who headed up titles such as Full Throttle and Grim Fandango. No details were given regarding the Vivendi deal. It lists Double Fine's development specialty as "Action/Adventure," but this may not indicate the specific genre of the studio's upcoming game. Schafer has revealed in the past that the studio has a new game in production, but no details regarding its genre or content have been announced.

Vivendi has so much marketing muscle at their disposal that I can only see good things about this news.

Vivendi has the marketing muscle to properly position their next title, funds coming from every orifice due to WoW, and enough patience to let a blockbuster simmer to perfection before shipping it.
So Tim, don't let us down.
(p.s. Give us another "arrowhead-hunting" mechanic, and I WILL CUT YOU.)
