AOL 5.0 Lawsuit
by Steve Gibson, Feb 02, 2000 1:40pm PSTJust because this is entertaining to watch. AOL is having a 8billion dollar lawsuit filed against them by 'Disgruntled AOL 5.0 users'. With all the stink that has been coming up about AOL 5.0 removing your internet settings for other adapters and ISPs. Lots of people are losing lots of work time. You can bet a few people in the AOL software department are sweating that pink slip.
The suit, alleging a deceptive trade practice and violation of computer-tampering laws, seeks damages of up to $1,000 for each of the approximately 8 million people who have downloaded the software.

AOL 5... sigh. I\'ve been using it since it went public beta. It was very handy when I moved to a new city last fall. Now I\'m currently using USWest as my main ISP, but still have my AOL account around, on the \'Bring Your Own Access\' billing. Not ONCE have I had a single problem with my TCP/IP settings. It seems to me (to me, to me) that the people that are having troubles with it don\'t know what their doing with computers in the first place. I learned the lesson of always clicking \'no\' to installers that want to take a lot of system settings/file associations for themselves long ago.
Makes me think of this: A person that doesn\'t know how to use a gun goes out and buys one and runs around the street firing wildly and killing people. When questioned, they respond, \"I didn\'t know what I was doing\". They then turn around and sue the gun manufactuers. Who\'s at fault? The people that make the product or the people that willingly stumble around because they are too proud to pull their heads out of their asses? Education. Thats somes it up for me.
i had a box of aol disks..
you know how good cd\'s fly when ya chuck one out the window goin down the interstate?

They were reviewed, but don\'t even show up in the ratings....
In case you didn\'t get it, alot of people have Gateway or Walmart purchased PC\'s with AOL 5.0 preloaded. It doesnt take a genius to figure that AOL5.0 is not compatable with our TCP/IP based network. I get alot of fucking phone calls from fucking retards who think they can somehow gain access to AOL from the goddamn residence (the phones carry an electrical charge, so no modems...)
If I get one more god-damn mother-fucking gay-ass request to remove AOL 5.0 from someones god-damn computer I\'ll fucking sue AOL myself!
Pardon my fucking french.

Now that analogy is a little far fetched.
