Doing the morning scan of CNN I spotted this article on the Playstation2 which gives some good numbers and should make it clear to you guys why so many people are excited about the console. Here are some shots of the PSX2 in action: [shot1] [shot2] [shot3] [shot4] [shot5].

According to MicroDesign Resources, the processor can handle 6.2 gigaflops at 300MHz. A single gigaflop equals one billion floating-point operations per second. MDR says that makes the chip two times faster than a 733-MHz Pentium III <snip> ...the device will arrive in U.S. stores this fall.

  • 94 -- No kidding, I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who seriously has no interest in hooking any console to my computer monitor. A desk is a wretched place to sit to play a game, really... if I could viably avoid it with PC games I probably would.

92 -- If they could, they still wouldn\'t. Even beyond the fact that the PC hardware would make sell much lower numbers in comparison, they\'d be reducing the desirability of a PSX2 to some degree, which means a smaller market. License and peripheral sales are a major chunk of their business, so that sort of stuff would definitely fit in their bad things category.

89 -- Agreed, \"Arcade\" is not a dirty word. Depth that comes purely from gameplay is hardly something I want to see discouraged. Depth from frivolous extras, on the other hand...

    79 -- Where\'d you see those numbers?
