Counter-Strike: Source Update Plans
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 12, 2006 7:17am PDTThe latest Valve news update is now available through Steam, mentioning their plans to update Counter-Strike: Source. The first update will offer an updated version of Train, which will include HDR lighting, minor layout changes and some bug fixes (screenshot here). Another upcoming update will rework the game's radar system.
There will be a significant change to the aesthetics of the radar, but there are also some fairly significant gameplay ramifications to the new system. One example: when you look directly at an enemy for a long enough time for their name to appear on your screen, everyone on your team will be able to see that enemy in the radar. We're planning on releasing this first update in about two weeks.In other Valve news, an updated Source SDK is now available.

Is there a way to display text on the screen instead of just "echo"ing in the console?
For example, I have a buy script setup and when I push the first key in the sequence, I want it to say on screen:
"1 = 5-7, 2 = TMP, 3 = Pump, 4 = Auto, 5 = p90, 6 = mp5, 7 = Galil/Famas, 8 = M4/AK47"
So that I will know what each of the number keys will buy (due to my buyscript).
Currently "echo" only seems to print to the console, not the screen itself. Is there a command to get text to show up on my screen?

Why do most AWPers get pissed off when killed by an auto-sniper, call the guy cheap, and demand that the auto-sniper guns be turned off?

- make them act more hostage like, not just stand there like dolls. (ie, cower, crying, huddled in a ball, look happy when CS gets there to rescue them) Its source for crying out loud.
- please make them follow the CS better, I hate loseing them on the way back all the time

If you can see an enemy, you transmit their location to everyone via the radar. If an aircraft with radar flies over, it picks everyone up bar cloakers and transmits that to everyones radar.

On a serious note, I don't really need to spend more time looking at radar. I already know when teammates have found enemies and where because they tell me Enemy Spotted and/or Need Backup.
What a waste. Meanwhile we could be playing Siege, Survivor, Docks, Mansion.. who knows.
Also the Source SDK update still doesn't unbreak Hammer for me, which sucks. :(

The news actually seems to indicate that the HDR Train and Radar update will be in one update together. However, there are other updates planned (in addition to the one in two weeks) that will further adjust some "core gameplay" mechanics.
At least that is what I, and others, have gathered from the news release wording.
