Next Generation has posted a new interview with id Software's Todd Hollenshead, conducted during last week's QuakeCon. The id CEO is asked about the new IP that the company is working on, his reaction to E3 being cancelled, DOOM 3 and Quake 4 sales, and the licensing appeal of id Software's next engine.

  • I purchased D3 shortly after release and played it. I generally liked the game because it combined sci-fi and horror elements, but there are a few small choices that were made that diminish my desire to replay it.

When you knock on things, say with the flashlight, it sounds the same no matter what you are knocking on.

The quantity of destructable items is a bit smaller than I would have preferred. I'm not implying that the game should have been filled with breakable crates but damaging the environment appeals to some gamers.

The scripted triggers for events seems a bit too rigid. You can sense something is about to happen and you can kind of tell where it's going to happen. All you have to do is step... right ... there.

Like I said, I bought the game at debut price and played it. It was later on during replay that I examined my surroundings a bit further and realized how very static it seemed.
