EA-Mythic Q&A
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 09, 2006 5:04am PDTWarhammer Alliance is the latest site with a Q&A on the EA-Mythic merger, asking EA Online's Chip Lange about it. Topics include the reasons Mythic was attractive to EA, Mythic's relationship with Games Workshop, EA's failed MMOG offerings, Warhammer Online's European launch, and EA's commitment to supporting Dark Age of Camelot.

Chip: We're in active discussions with both Mythic and GOA and we're sure that the Warhammer game will be launched expertly in Europe.
*sigh*... if GOA's involved, then the European service and infrastructure is going to really suck.
Basically, in DAoC, the developers let an outside company (GOA) run their game, including everything from servers, maintenance, and customer service. GOA was lazy with updating the version of DAoC, so the European version always got all the cool stuff Mythic was working on later, and GOA didn't bother hiring game-masters for in-game customer support. Maybe it's better now, but it was terrible when I played. Having an outside company deal with an MMO in various geographic regions is a bad thing. I'm glad that Blizzard works well with their European WoW service team.
If GOA's involved in Warhammer Online, I'd rather play on the American servers, even if for me that means higher latency, and missing out on huge PvP battles at prime-time.
