2Moons Announced
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 08, 2006 11:26am PDTMMORPG.com carries a story announcing the development of 2Moons, a free MMORPG to be published by Acclaim. The game is based on a Korean MMORPG, and designer David Perry will help adapt the game for the North American market. According to Shiny founder Perry, the game will "probably be the most violent MMO on the market". Some images can be found here.
"Can we make a game that would... introduce new people to MMOs so that they can have fun," Perry told MMORPG.com in our exclusive audio interview, "but that would also entertain and provide something new to people who are really hardcore." 2Moons is not for kids and Perry was very upfront to state that the game will carry an M rating. "Violence in games is just an issue if you're not being honest about the violence in your games," added Perry. "I'm doing my best to make this a violent game."An audio interview with Perry can be found here.

"All advertising will be in the UI – not the world – and most surprising is that it will also be entirely optional for the player."
“It will be like on television, you get to see a pay-per-view Mike Tyson fight that would normally cost you forty bucks,†explained Perry, “but you turn on a single image in the bottom right hand corner you get to watch it for free.â€Â
"The model allows gamers to completely turn off all advertising at no cost to them. The only incentive is experience and gameplay bonuses to gamers who choose to allow the advertising in the UI."
The quote from Perry about the pay per view fight and the ads benefiting char growth seem to contradict each other. In Perry's quote, it sounds like as a player, I can choose to view ads and play the game for free. In the other quote... the ads don't affect the cost of the game, but my ability to grow my character.
I don't play MMO's at all and I'm not really interested in this one either, but I'm curious what other MMO players feel about the way this game uses ads?

Wake me up when somebody thinks of something creative. This whole fantasy thing has been beaten to death worse than WWII games.
