New E3 Details Revealed
by Chris Remo, Aug 01, 2006 10:05am PDTThe Wall Street Journal has reported on early details regarding the 2007 iteration of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, which over the last few days has undergone some radical changes. The tentative name for this revised show will be the E3 Media Festival, and will be located not in the gargantuan Los Angeles Convention Center but more likely in the suites and conference rooms of a few Los Angeles hotels. It will take place in July rather than the traditional May, giving publishers more time to ready their holiday lineups for display. While recent E3 events have had attendance upwards of 60,000, the E3 Media Festival is looking to trim more than 90% of that crowd, with a target of 5,000 attendees. According to Doug Lowenstein, head of E3 organizer the Entertainment Software Association, these proposed changes will be subject to a vote for approval tomorrow.

Now who does this hurt? Web sites like Shacknews who are shut out o the procedings. IGN and Gamespot gain from this. In a way it's sad but 99% of what you see at E3 is marketing bullshit and sizzle. This new new approach offeres much more steak.
I hope the ESA or the big publishers decide to hold a E3 like event to showcase games just for their fans... that wouild be something wouldn't it? The industry needs more QuakeCons!

I suppose this does make sense though. With the rise of the internet since the formation of E3, a smaller setting is really all thats needed since they can broadcast any information/showings/etc out to everyone and leave the hands on to the public events to comic con and PAX which are designed specifically for those purposes.

I hate websites that pull that "E3 exclusive" shit (nothing is exclusive at E3, fucking morons...) and only release videos and media 3 weeks later to the "non paying customers". (fuck gamespot)

Looks like we're kinda heading back to that. It'll be like x-mas morning. :)
Also, they could of hired some of the dudes that hang out infront of home depot instead of professional set up stuff.
Instead of expensive light shows, just hand out water bottles with acid.
