yes #3, you are correct. 3dfx has always sucked when it comes to linux support..if you want a real comparision, use a nvidia card. they have some REAL support..

Win98, (Win98SE at least) is not that unstable, assuming you\'ve got it set up right, tweaked and not running lots of dodgy apps and drivers. The last time my computer crashed was nearly two weeks ago, and that was because it overheated, not because of Windows.

It isn\'t perfect and not as stable as NT, but it\'ll do me.

Yes, with Windows 2000, there will finally be widespread usage of the NT kernel that I\'ve enjoyed since NT 3.51! Let me tell you folks, running an NT OS that\'s been finely tuned and running it for a month till you *decide* to reboot it, is surely a pleasure compared to struggling to keep a Win9x 16-bit hybrid 32-bit OS from crashing. With NT you don\'t have to \"reboot to give it a fresh clean feeling\"!!

OK, first of all LINUX, which IS NOT UNIX, came out in \'91 or \'92, so it hasn\'t \"been around forever\", it is not like OS/2 which tried to be a commercial product and failed horribly due to IBM\'s ridiculously poor marketing. Linux has been far more successful, just look at all the IPO shit that went down last year.

However, Linux is not yet ready for primetime, while windows is looking better than ever (2000 looks like THE SHIT). Linux is fast, small, stable, and secure, but ... say it with me.... \"it\'s not user friendly enough.\" And if the Linux geeks have their way, it never will be, and windows will then always be the market leader, because, quite honestly, people don\'t want their computers to make them feel stupid, they want to be able to plug\'n\'play and just use software OOTB, without uncompressing or futzing around with a command line.

The best Window managers in Linux fall way short of the usability of windows. I think people will give up on linux because it couldn\'t deliver. I think people just need to give it some time.

Anyway, that was my rant for the morning. : )

I wasn\'t talking about Unix and Linux hasn\'t been around that long. i believe that the inital post thatthe author made was in 94. Maybe 92...

OS/2 wasn\'t around for long... Linux and UNIX based systems were around before DOS even existed, and I don\'t see how they could be killed out. it would be too costly for the government to replace all its linux systems with win2k systems, and I don\'t think even THEY trust MS sescurity :P

Seriously, my point is that Linux is the \"in\" crowd OS much like OS/2 was. However 5 years from now most of us will still be using a microsoft os of some sort and people will wonder what happen to Linux.

Linux in 2000 = OS/2 in 1994.
