Yes, the melee combat in the multiplayer beta is a ton of fun. I felt the same way as you do: Oblivion's combat was fun, but it doesn't feel nearly as good as Dark Messiah's.

If you haven't watched the various class videos on Fileshack, do it. Combat looks so sweet. It kicks about 10 different kinds of ass on Oblivion's, which I thought was good.
