Day of Defeat: Source Free Weekend Pre-Loading

You guys are forgetting that Valve doesn't do things in a traditional manner. My guess on this second free weekend is that it was successful the first time around and now that they have improved content they're just doing it again. I'm sure they are going to do this a lot more often with their top tier MP games in the future. I doubt the game is considered a flop at Valve. Does it have room for growth? Sure. It's no CS but I'm sure they are making money off of it.

Now, why didn't they do this with CS? Why would they HAVE to? It's the #1 action game online (according to their data.) They already gave it away with HL2 so it's an apples/oranges thing. It makes sense they would prop their other solid MP game up if there is room for growth.

I'm pretty sure that this free weekend coincides with the massive update they just released. The 4 new maps, graphic effects that are subtle yet oh-so-pretty and gametype are great (dod_jagd is amazing.)

I don't think these free weekends have much to do with sales, but then again, I don't know either.

Either way, if you don't have the game, try out the new content this weekend. I know a lot of people are having a blast with it.

Hay guys, I'm probably gonna be running a private shack server for those interested, so check ER/FP a few hours before hand, I'll get the server running and hopefully crash free and fun filled for the whole weeked, maybe get mani mod on it if I have time.

Check this mod out, it's very fun.

Oh, I get it. You have to restart Steam to get the latest version. Then the link will work.

Yeah I agree that advertising something doesn't mean it's doing bad. But this is the second time they've just let people hop on for free for a weekend, which they've never bothered to do with CSS, or HL2DM or any of their other online titles.

I think DOD:S got a little screwed over since initially owning it wasn't part of otherwise popular products (i.e., people got CSS and HL2DM just for owning HL2, people had to buy the Gold Steam package or buy it separately to get DOD:S) and so they do things like this to try and stunt its growth. Couple that with the WW2 overload...
