All these Necron movies so far have made their standard ranged infantry look ridiculously weak in attack and defense.

Are you a Dawn of War fan? I am and I'm really looking forward to this one personally. The World-Wide War campaign they are planning in this xpack sounds cool.

I think they're supposed to be, though I don't know anything about the tabletop game. But the Tau are strong ranged and weak close-combat, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Necrons are strong close-combat and weak ranged.

Necrons are mostly quite weak in close combat and depending on the troop types medium to very strong in range. What makes them so dangerous is that as long as some of the unit still stands the dead necrons can come back to life (reconstruct). Not sure how this is gonna work in DoW but in the table-top game it can be a royal pain in the ass to see all the guys you just killed stand back up.

but don't they have some kind of auto-defeat too? Like you "temp kill" enough of them they'll all flee the battlefield? Would be funny to see this implemented in the computer game too ;)

anyway, this looks like a great expansion to an already great game, and since I'm not a WH fan I can live with Relic fine tuning units which would otherwise be kind of imbalanced in a RTS game...

They were modded to be like that in the movie IIRC.

^^^IAWTP. The movie was setup that way for the sake of showing off the scarabs and Nightbringer. Necron warriors would not fall that fast in the real game.

That being said, I wasn't too impressed with Nightbringer. He looks cool, but he doesn't have the same "oomph" that a Bloodthirster, or Eldar Avatar, has. I was expecting him to hit the Space Marines with his scythe and see a half-dozen bodies go flying. Something dramatic and comparable to the other big dudes. Instead, a single Marine would end up on the point of his scythe and he would pick him off and eat him, then repeat.

He needs some work. A cooler attack animation or something.

he did throw multiple guys with a swing. the animation you are talking about is the same as the other two, they have a single unit kill animation.

I guess I blinked and missed it. Something was missing though. He seemed a bit bland.

tranj on the relic forums said that he was only 30% done as far as animations go.
