Probably not. My company regulates when all the manufacturing people can take vacation. They try to keep an 80% workforce at all times so people who want time off around Xmas have to sign up for it early in the year, and seniority probably affects it, etc. My department probably does something similar since we directly support manufacturing, but I dunno.
I personally think it's really stupid. As if you can make more shit having 60% of the people here one week and 100% the next versus 80% for two weeks. It only makes sense if they put in the effort to actually regulate it per work area, so that they avoid shutting down certain product lines. -
It boils down to having nearly every supervisor of any sort being gone because of the holiday tomorrow, and they don't think anyone else of any real value is going to want to come in today, so they pretty much just want maintenance and a couple other small groups to come in. People working on something extremely "hot" maybe, but that's a small percentage right now.
I'm ok with it really, although it got me sucked into helping do PC support at my dad's office, again. Right now I'm trying to get this stupid computer to lock up again, but I think 10 year old Matrox technology came to the rescue this time.
