The opening sceane where your character is looking at himself (and talking to himself) in the mirror was great. Really got me into the character. I also liked the fact that he had a personality and a point of view in the world, flawed though it may be. It was better than being a generic, no-named, no-voiced and often no-faced, hero.
The new features/concepts were a blast. (changing gravity, moving fluidly through portals, changing sizes (WTF?), spirit-walking, new method of dealing with player death, etc...)
The animations were smooth and realistic. Gestures, body language, etc... I was even impressed with the crazy people. Animations were good.
You guys did a good job.
You have sold at least one box to someone on the Shack.
Fuck the haters.
I was excited when shit hit the fan. Getting sucked up into an alien spaceship is intriguing and fun.
It's too bad that was the top of the hill. It's too bad the demo became nothing more immersive or informative as the uninteresting and cliche screenshots that have been available for months.
Mindlessly trudging through obvious paths amidst entirely generic and thoughtless sci-fi environments is NOT fun. Multi-directional gravity is a GIMMICK that ruins immersion. Carelessly executed CLICHE's run wild in the form of posessed kids, randomly placed torture devices, psychotic prisoners who will not talk and run on a repeated animations, useless display monitors everywhere, and advanced extraterrestrials who don't have a fucking clue.
I'm sick of this shit people call games. It's an insult to the intellogence of those who play them. These developers are spending millions of dollars to re-invent the wheel. Yes, I know what a 3d engine can do, now what can a creative group of humans do WITH it?
Fuck, I am pissed at the state of games.. and I want gamers to open their eyes.
Thanks for reading this, those of you that did. I realize i'm posting in a day-old section.
Prey is a tech-demo.

This demo was clearly a well thought out, brilliantly executed example of an innovative twist on the FPS genre. There were so many excellent moments in this chunk of gameplay - I don't know where to start. I had a blast.
Great work Human Head Studios!

I played the Prey demo and even with all the physics , the game is worst than Doom3, Quake 4 and Half-Life2. Sorry but the 3D Realm guys always want to be the top. I couldn't find the top on this demo.
At the end I was tired to be inside the spaceship. They talked about a revolution. The textures are the same of Doom3, nothing new.
I agree with hawke:
Good enough demo. Seems kinda 'cliche' FPS though. I'm sure they did a great job, but if the story goes anything similar to:
-Rescue Girlfriend
-Try to Escape
-Save the Planet in the process.
Then I'm not that interested. I've played that story before about a million times.
Iceman
I'm one of those folks that actually likes Steam, and I'm all for competing digital download services, but Triton looks like a big loser. The ability to play a "streaming" game can only possibly matter to folks who didn't pre-load and want to play the game on launch day. Not a long term selling point, and a non-factor to tech-savvy fans, you know, the ones who would have a clue they could buy the game digitally, and who would have the entire title pre-loaded days ahead of time.
Also, if you buy a physical, retail copy, you are required to activate over the Internet upon install. It looks like a single check, and you can subsequently play offline. I'd hope this means there's no CD check, but generally, that's cool with me. But... as a guy who is constantly upgrading, tweaking, and reinstalling his PC, I don't want to have to call 3DR to approve installation of the game in 3 years, because I've gone past an arbitrary hardware limit they may have imposed.

Great graphics!!!
Great story line!!!
Why the the use of of the "F" word.....Does it really generate that much more in sales? If only there was a way to turn that on for those that want it and turn it off for those don't.
just a thought...........for the marketing people at humanhead!

Interesting storyline however, with a fresh approach for the main character - and good to finally have verbal comments from the player! (HL2 Ep 1 could have benefitted from this greatly). It's a pity it has to be constrained to it's linear style progress, even if it means you can do it walking on the roof. Generally better than what I was expecting.

This was planned from the beginning, and had we just had four more weeks to polish would have made it in. I'm sad, too, that it didn't, as it would have made the freeze ammo totally memorable. Blame this one solely on the pressure to release.

Give up. People have been asking for better stories from FPS games for years now. It isn't happening. FPS games will almost never rise above the level of a decent action movie (in terms of story). If someone has a gee whiz awesome story, they'd be a lot more sensible to have it made into a movie. Learn to like FPS games for what they are.

My only complaint would be that MultiPrey is a ton of fun, but either the netcode totally sucks or it takes a monster machine (which sadly, I don't have) to run well.
I was very surprised at how optimized the single player portion is - in fact, it's quite godly in it's performance on my ancient PC. However, every server I jumped on in MP ran like absolute crap.
The wall walking, spirit mode, and gravity really add a lot to DM, more so than I ever thought it would. It might not end up having the overall numbers CS or Battlefield have, but I'll defintely play it a lot if it's smoother in the retail release.
PS.
The music kicks ass. I hope there is more in the full version.

I might be remembering it wrong, but the OLD Prey, they were going to do something completely different. Instead of running through a tired linear story, the story was that you were captured by this race looking for 'combat challenges'. You were the target in sort of alien right of passage game. (Like in Predator....actually hence...Prey)
So, you got captured, and you were forced to do these 'deathmatch' type games against 1 or 2 really talented enemies. (Like the 1v1 levels of Q3...but more 'final.' I assumed you'd do a dozen of those with different environments different enemies, and THEN you'd finally escape and you'd pretty much do the same thing again, but this time with a goal of getting past them to the exits.
That would be a much more interesting storyline/game then 'just another FPS' story.

Can someone draw a picture of one of the deathmatch levels for me. I wanna know which room is next to which, and have a nice overview of the floor-plan.
Actually that's a rhetorical question.
It's going to be nigh impossible to get a good 3D 'sense of direction' in these levels. I think a 'linear' sense of direction won't be TOO difficult.
(To get to room A, I go left at room B, down the side tunnel to room D, and through the Portal)
However, you 'MIGHT' have BEEN in room A already...just on the celing, and you didn't know it was the same room.
Even if I can navigate the levels with my eyes closed, I'm afraid I might have a constant nagging feeling that I REALLY don't have a complete view of what the level looks like.
AND THAT'S DANG AWESOME!!! brings back the good ol' days of Descent..only moreso

This is the most original, exciting, and amazing game I've ever seen on a PC. The portal technology is unlike anything I've seen. I can't believe this is the Quake3 engine.
Totally frickin' amazing!!
