You will be able to continue where you left off in the demo in the retail game after you purchase it. The save games sit in the My Documents folder and remain there even if you uninstall the demo. It's as simple as pressing resume in your bought copy. Have fun folks.

Anyway, I haven't seen a lot of talk of this, but you know what really interests me the most about the game? The environments and story. The portal technology and gravity tracks/tricks are used to a crazy degree, and I can see some really interesting puzzles coming out of that. It's been a while since I've seen really interesting level design in a FPS game (as opposed to "set pieces") and Prey has the potential to show off level design that only it can do. So that's exciting. As for the story, what are the aliens' goals? There's a whole lot of things your character is left in the dark about that I really want to know more of, so I'm looking forward to that.
I finished the demo yesterday (about 50 minutes of playtime, so it was right on the money for length) but you know what? The first thing I do when I get back from work is load it up again. I really really enjoyed it. Love that level design!

Original Characters (not a space marine), Interesting Environments, Portal Tech nifty / lives up to hype, Decent new weapons, Great Performance (go figure, id engine), NOT PG.
Not sold on the wall walking thing, not because it’s not interesting or cool but firefights could be very lame if you’re hitting the switches accidentally. That being said, didn’t do it in the demo so hopefully it doesn’t come up too often.
Rune was good and under-rated; Human Head has given me no reason not to trust them yet, they will see my money for Prey.
Play Triton:
… Makes me want to Hurt People
“"Triton™, makes a quantum leap forward in streaming delivery of top games.â€Â
… and a Quantum Leap backward in providing any actual information for said games.
Game websites have consistently got worse over the years with the advent of flash, but seriously, as a web developer and gamer, you have to try pretty damn hard to make a website worse than the one at playtriton.com
The intention is to sell games right? because playtriton spends so much time hyping the service they appearently didn’t have any time to provide screen shots, faqs, a features list, a forum, etc.
Even worse than that, playtriton.com isn’t even aware they can link to other pages on the internet -- because any outside link to, say … a publishers website … a developers website … or *gasp a GAME website, such as the one at prey.com is nowhere to be found here : http://playtriton.com/title_details.asp?PKG=TKGAPREY1147277052404
The service is only as good as the games and if you don’t promote the games, you won’t sell the service. See: http://blizzard.com/ , See: http://bioware.com/ (and people wonder why they are 2 of the most commercially successful game companies).

Of course the engine is better suited for metallic environments and spaceships and so on but GOD DAMN I so want System Shock 3 in that engine.
Oh, Prey is gonna 0wn. And so is Duke.

I'm being harsh. It was a solid demo, and I may end up buying it depending on how well the final product is received. But nothing warranted a preorder in my case.
A lot of it seemed derivative of Half Life and Half Life 2. The opening rail trip on the spaceship was ripped right out of the end of HL2, and although I'm sure it was in development before HL2, it still stood out as something I'd seen before. The alien critter weapon also reminded me of the bug weapons from HL.

First thoughts.....
Wow, that was some CRAZY ride... I have never been disoriented before, but this takes the cake. After playing a good 45 minutes, I feel like walking on my ceiling, in fact, it would seem normal to put my feet on my walls now and walk... although i'm guessing that would do much good.
Puzzles: interesting, yet not on the same level as half-life 2
Story: Pretty good so far, I really pulls you in
Visuals: The engine looked old... even though it's based off the Doom 3 engine, but they did a good job with it and there was DEFINATELY some crazy 'holy shit' moments.
Performance: Ran VERY well, fast load times, really well optimized IMO, kudos for that. (A64 @ 2.75, 2 gigs of ram, 6800 GT)
Gameplay: Average... shooting wise, there wasn't anything extra special, and it wasn't action packed like i had hoped. It was a slower pace shoot one bad guy at a time type of thing. The walking seemed like i was just floating through at first, like, they forgot to put cl_bob 1 on or something. But I got used to it after a little while.
I can't say that the game play blew me away.
Summary: Everything but the gameplay was amazing, very innovative on the gravity switching, and that aspect alone makes it different than anything I have ever played before. If the game picks up the pace a bit more, and doesn't over-do the gravity thing, I'm sure it will be a great title.
ps. The bar at the start sorta reminded me of Duke... and that's a good thing.

Secondly, I honestly fealt sick by the end. Total motion sickness disoriented kinda feeling. Any game that can make me feel sick is a purchase. Bring on the 360 demo please because this game will look awesome on my hdtv.
ps.
Thank you for giving us a character with some fucking personality. It's nice hearing him say shit. Why haven't I seen that in a game since Duke?

The demo runs fine on my A64 3200+/2gig ram/x800 pro but it I get the same frame rate no matter what settings I change it to (low/med/high) on my laptop which is a Dell D800 GeforceFX GO 5750 with 1 gig ram and Pentium-M 1.3ghz (equivalent of a pentium4 2ghz). Doom 3 and Quake 4 run fine at medium settings at 1024X768 on my laptop.

I know Human Head did the game, but you can definitely see 3DR's fingerprints all over this, and that's a good thing.
This looks like it is going to be a purchase, even though I had no intention of getting it before the demo came out. You guys have earned my money.
BTW, I am officially excited about Duke Nukem Forever again.

Gameplay-wise it really adds some flavor to the FPS genre which we all know can feel stale easily. Totally new feel to the weapons, gameplay strategies, the gravity not only makes taking out enemies a whole new ballgame, but adds some nice, but not annoying, puzzles into the mix. Didn't experience any vehicles, but that looks to add a little variety and it looks fun. Enemies aren't too smart, but they aren't entirely stupid either. They take cover, and some of the snipers in the later part of the demo throws in some long-range combat. The spirit mode adds even more variety, so overall I don't see myself getting bored with this one at all.
The graphics are superb, it doesn't feel like Doom 3, nor does it look like it, yet it looks as good, if not better than D3. The environments are creative and fascinating, and sometimes even deadly. Everything runs super smooth only A64 3500+, GF6 6800GT, 1GB memory, not a single hiccup. Human Head definitely polished this one to a sparkly shine. Enemies all look great, and weapon fire is great.
Sound is great, the production value is top notch. From the licensed rock songs in the bar, to the sound of the weapon fire, enemies communicating and dying, to even your footsteps are all quality stuff.
The first 10 minutes where it introduces you to the game is one of the best since Half-Life's original introduction. You can play little mini-games, play songs on the jukebox, and even get in a fight. There are little interactive bits throughout the game; such as turning on faucets, manipulating items on screens, to mucking with alien technology to get health boosts.
I, for one, welcome our FPS-making overlords at Human Head Studios.

Dunno if I care much at all for multiplayer though, seems like standard mindless FPS multiplayer.
