xbox networking menz!

i've been trying to softmod my xbox since reading a post about it earlier. i've got evox loaded and everything, but for the life of me i cannot get it to connect to my network. i'm connecting it to a motorola router wr850g set to dhcp. the xbox won't pull an ip in the regular dashboard or in evox. i've tried setting the ip manually with no change. i have reset the router to factory as well. what am i missing?

Quake II (wo)menz!

Anyone have an uncorrupted q2pduel.pak or know where I can obtain one? I've downloaded from FilePlanet and also from one other spot (I think FileFront?) and Q2 is not happy with either one... claims that the maps do not exist. Also if I open it up with PakExplorer the file sizes of the components within the pak display as "-1". Bleh!

Also, while I'm on the subject, is there any difference between aeroq2.bsp and aerowalk.bsp? Doesn't seem to be...

My local bar offered me free drinks if i bring in new music on cd for them to play. I've been spending a lot of time on YTMND lately and it's gotten me thinking about 'net fad songs.

This is the thread where you list all of the 'net fad songs you can think of and i'll compile them on a CD and break it out at like 12:30 at night at the bar when everyone's already good and drunk.

I'm trying to design a page with three columns of links in the middle of a page. I can't use a table because my company is hardcore about being 100% ADA compliant. Here is the CSS code I'm working with:

Just finished the second case in Phoenix Wright. This game is just so many kinds of awesome.

I still have a second copy of the game (since I screwed up and accidentally ordered two!). Any Shackers that needs a hookup, all I'm asking for is what I paid plus shipping, it's not "cheap", but maybe there's someone out there that got trouble finding it? 46ish USD for the game, plus shipping (5 to 10 bucks extra I guess, depending on where you are).

So Friday at work (I didn't get fired!) I had a really bad itch on my foot, right on the side of my heel. I scratched it all day and towards the end of the work day, when it was very slow, I took of my shoe to take a look at what was driving me crazy. At first it appeared to be a scratch but low and behold it was a hair underneath my skin! I mean a long ugly, black hair. I tried getting a grip on it to yank it out but to no avail. I tried to ignore it all weekend but the irritation overcame me. So Sunday night after my wife had gone to sleep I soaked my foot in the tub. After that I got a steak knife, I'm no doctor so it was the smallest, sharpest blade I had. I heated the blade witha lighter, to sterilize it (they do it on TV!), and preped myself for the oncoming pain as best I could. I punched myself in thr face then cut into my foot, the damn knife was so hot I yelped and dropped it on the floor. I grabbed by foot seething between my teeth and attempted to splash water on it from the sink. The pain subsided, I hobbled over to the sink, rinsed the blade off and decide to just bear the pain and cut into my foot. I started cutting slowly, saw the blood start trickling down, freaked out, clenched my teeth and threw the knife into the shower tub because I'm a pussy and couldn't handle the pain. I now have a big ol' band-aid on my foot and an appointment at my doctors tomorrow for two o'clock. I'm a moron.

UTF-8 / French Language People
A while ago I built an english/french bilingual site.

The client has come back complaining that his accented chars are coming up as chinese. Which they now are.

Symptoms:
- Chinese letters ie: "industrie pÃ©Â´Â²oliÃ¨Â²Â¥, sont"
- Chinese only shows in IE, Firefox displays " lÃ¯Â¿Â½industrie pÃ¯Â¿Â½troliÃ¯Â¿Â½re,"
- I can use french characters from my keyboard fine. The client is in france and will have their language setup to French.

The site charset is set to UTF-8. The database (MySQL) is set to the UTF-8 charset, with utf8_general_ci coallation. Site is driven with php (which, as I read, isn't too UTF-8 friendly).

So, what could cause chinese chars to pop up on the site?

kids shouldn't be allowed on public servers

last night i reinstalled BF2 because i haven't played it since i formated my comp about 3 months ago. i like the game, screw you all. i decided to try my hand at Commander because no one else was doing it, and i was doing pretty good, if i do say so myself. everyone was getting supplies, vehicles, UAVs and artillary was really pounding the piss out of quite a few baddies.

half way through i get a request for supplies from a guy who was in his own squad. everyone else was in groups of 3~5, but he was by himself and requested a supply drop on the roof of a building so he could continue trying to snipe. i denied the request because he was by himself and my other squads were making an attack on 2 other bases FAR from where he was and they needed the help.

he requests again, and i deny again. this goes on for a good 5 minutes. that's when he gets on his mic and starts talking trash about how the commander isn't supporting everyone. well this was partly true. why should i support a single sniper with only 3 kills, 17 deaths, and no teamwork points when everyone else is actually doing something for the team? then the mutiny votes begin and he was the only one voting for it :-) i had to laugh to myself about it.

the map ends and though we lost, it was only by 3 points. it really was a good battle. next map starts and i manage to get Commander again. and immediately the mutiny vote begins from this kid. as with before, he was the only one voting for it. i guess this pissed him off, because then he starts to TK me. so i punished him for it and after 2 TKs in a matter of 3 minutes, he's banned from the server.

his clan mate (oh yeah, he had a clan member in there with him, not their server, it was a public one) was verbally coming after me but stopped when he saw this other kid get kicked. i never shot back or even spoke back to them. i simply played my role and did it as best i could. and you know what? it was quite rewarding to see him kicked and banned :-)

so watch out for some kids in a clan called |PC|. they're a little bitchy.

Any slipstreaming pros around?

I have two versions of Win2k on me, one is the original disk and the other is a slipstreamed version with SP4. I'm using the latter and it's going great, until it prompts me to: "Insert disk CD Service Pack 4 in A:".

Unfortunately there was no floppy drive created in the process, and I don't understand why it should require that. This computer doesn't even have a floppy to begin with. At this location I do not have access to a Windows operating system to reattempt to slipstream, and I would install the original OS but it's not detecting the full size of the SATA HD (320gb), and is only reporting a 137gb capacity.

Is there any way around this? I'm using Knoppix to post this; thankfully I had that cd on me.

So this past weekend I got bored and finally broke down and did the whole EvoX and XBMC thing(softmod) to my older XBOX. Holy Shit! Seriously, anyone even considering this should just do it.

I just got tired of converting and burning DVD's so I could watch all the cool "Internet Videos" on my regular T.V.'s. XBMC is just so fucking sexy, I am having a had time believing that it was as easy as it was. I am especially impressed with the streaming of video over the network. It works much, much better than I expected.

I have added several scripts for watching videos from the net(youtube, google, etc). What else does the Shack reccommend I add? What can I add that will make me even more impressed. Also, I need a good recommendation for a Genesis and Snes emulator that will work on the XBOX.

looking to do a major upgrade soon. but i haven't read up on any CPUs, mobos, video cards, or sound cards in a while. without turning this into a "this is my awesome rig" thread, can you guys give me any advice? do i do the upgrade now or wait till summer or what? i'm going from a 2.4ghz P4 / ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. so if i go the route of a PCI-E video card, i'll need a new mobo.

So, people in the know:

Anyone have an idea on how long it'll be before Neverwinter Nights 2 is released? I tried checking their website and searching the shack but I wasn't able to get a solid answer. I"m looking for an order of magnitude - is it right around the corner, 3 months, 6 months, a year?

Help appreciated.

Also, any other exciting multiplayer RPG games coming out this way anytime soon? What're you all enjoying playing?
