AMD Kills Off Several Athlon CPUs
by Maarten Goldstein, Jun 14, 2006 1:53pm PDTTech Report has a story about AMD's plans for some of its older Athlon CPUs. Athlon 64 X2 4800+, 4400+, and 4000+ for Socket AM2 and model 4400+ for Socket 939 chips will be retired soon, as will 4000+, 3700+, 3200+, and 3000+ single core chips. Several Sempron CPUs will be discontinued as well.

I really want to get a X2 4800+ but was waiting til the prices came down a little. I hope I can still get one if/when the price falls.
Isn't that like... almost all of the dual core AM2 CPUs? On second glance I guess that leaves us with the X2 5000+, 4600+, 4200+ and 3800+. Maybe to give more incentive to make the jump up to the 5000+?
