Infinium Labs is Gone, Gets Sued
by Chris Remo, May 30, 2006 7:12am PDTInfinium Labs, the company behind the still unreleased Phantom Game Service and the more recent but still equally unreleased Phantom lapboard, will soon be no more. Don't get too teary-eyed yet, though--the company is just changing its name, to the startlingly appropriate Phantom Entertainment, the company has revealed in an SEC filing. The board of directors have also elected to double the number of shares in the company from 600 million to 1.2 billion. While the state of the Phantom console itself is still in limbo, the company remains dedicated to launching the mobile keyboard and mousing service it announced some months ago. Meanwhile, former Infinium CEO and current Nival executive Kevin Bachus, also known for being instrumental in the launch of the original Xbox, has sued the company for unpaid wages of around $50,997. Newly redubbed Phantom Entertainment has announced its intention to "defend itself vigorously in this matter." Such a payment, however, would come as a drop in the bucket among the company's losses over the last several years, which according to another SEC filing add up to a grand total of $69,331,794. In that document, the company noted that "our independent auditors expressed substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern."

I wonder what kind of car(s) that guy drives and what kind of house he lives in and if thats what these so called "investors" have been "investing" in all these years...

It was such a great company with Silent Storm, and the Etherlords series. This doesn't bode well for them if the guy's the CEO =/

We had like 5-6 major NES clones back then. This one was released by the biggest company in the home entertainment market, "Gradiente".

what the hell are they doing? MORE shares to sell and they are now worth even less? is this another capital raising time for them? when will this end?
if all of that money was to secure licensing to use Nvidia/ATI/IBM/whatever chips to make a console, I could see us waiting it out... but this just reeks of scandalous behavior and off-shore money shelters.
I suppose it was right after all. Interesting to see it unfold. I was picked for the beta test as well with some of you. I sort of lost interest after reading that article about the guy though, I'll see if I can find it.

Their competition: DNF.
after all, this company hasn't even launched the lapboard, which was shown as a working prototype a long time ago. I'm not sure anymore that they can't do it; it may be that they won't do it, because taking the VC money is cheaper for the execs than starting production and taking a greater loss.
