(caps necessary)
Like Aankhen said, the game is a SINGLE PLAYER game. The idea of spore
is that its content is created by people who play Spore.
Their creatures/houses/vehicles are uploaded to a central server which then YOUR game downloads to populate the universe you play in.
Everything is played by the COMPUTER defined by how the player who originally player the creature you downloaded.
So if someone creates a creature which is pacific and docile, the version which you download will play accordingly.
You can also bookmark creations from certain people to flag the game to download stuff from that specific person. So you can populate your universe with things created by someone you know.
So to reiterate. SPORE IS NOT A MMO, it just downloads content from other people SEAMLESSLY.
And if you don't have internet access (what the hell??) then you can download a database from the oficial site which contains the latest creatures created by other people to populate your universe.
That is not necessary, SPORE doesn't require you to have an internet connection but it's highly recommended since most of the content will be more diverse if you get it from other people around the world.
