Wii Hardware Shots
by Chris Remo, May 09, 2006 7:36pm PDTWe've got a new set of hardware shots of Nintendo's upcoming console Wii. Most notable is a picture of the system's previously unseen optional classic controller, intended for use with backwards compatible games from legacy systems. The controller resembles an SNES pad, with four face buttons, two shoulder buttons, and a d-pad, but also has two analog sticks styled like the left GameCube stick and positioned like the sticks on a DualShock. It also features the Start, Select, and Home buttons seen on the system's standard controller.

I've been working on converting my 20 year old VHS tapes of console games I beat when I was a kid to digital format. So I have made the Kiltron NES Endings Tape #1 available. There are more tapes to come as I gather the footage off of them. I'll just post the readme.txt. Visit my mainpage for more info and to download the video. It's a hefty download of 465MB with 73 NES games with over 3 hours of boss fights and endings footage.

Description:
This is Tape #1 of some of the NES games I've beat and kept track of on VHS since I was a child. These date back as far as 1985, and is true vintage footage. You'll also see a few boss fights as well with some of the endings. I have converted this tape to digital format for your viewing pleasure. There are 73 endings and boss fights totalling over 3 hours of footage.
Note:
Since this tape is so old, the video quality isn't perfect and it has a bit of wear and tear so the first few endings appear a little warped and some here and there. The rest are fine.
Requirements:
The video file is in .wmv format, so you should be able to watch it in Windows Media Player without any problems.
Special Thanks:
All the game developers and companies out there which gave me years of gaming fun with these titles, and most of all, Nintendo for making it all happen.
Info:
If you're into vintage gaming, like gaming videos, or game endings, this is a great video to have. This
video may also help some of the vintage gamers out there in learning how to kill the final boss or finish mazes in some of these games. I have tons of ending tapes and footage from many of the console games I've beat. I hope you enjoy these as it took me years to do. Look for the next tape soon.

Notice how Miyamoto exaggerates his movements whereas the other dudes movements aren't that exaggerated. Looks like the Wii scales up/down your input based on your range of movement?

Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Nintendo-revolution6.jpg and they all look really slim, but notice on the red one you can just see that the front-left surface is at an angle that you can't see in any of the other shots.
When I first looked at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Rev3.jpg I was wondering why it looked so much thicker than the other pictures I'd seen (also not as sexy polished white) and that surface explains it.
I still think it's a really good design and probably the nicest looking of the three new consoles (definitely better than the PS3 which is fugly by my tastes) but it seems a bit cheaky of Nintendo to keep showing it from an angle which conveniently hides a bevelled edge to make it even look thinner.
Also, what's the deal with slot-loading drives? The PS3 and Wii both seem to use them, which is something new for consoles. Do slot-loaders have any drawbacks associated with them? I wouldn't buy a slot-loading drive for my PC because I associate them with cheap hardware, but maybe I'm being prejudiced for no reason? I don't know of any solid reasons that slot-loaders are worse than tray loaders. Are there any?

Ok I'm officially a TINY TINY bit interested in a nintendo product.
Imagine you've got the umm nunchuck weird thing in the left hand.
Anyhow if you "drop your hand / wrist forward" (think, casting a fishing rod) it goes forward.
If you pull your hand back / (think striking the line when fishing) it goes backwards.
Anyhow - that for movement plus the wand / remote in the other hand for looking - that's not a bad idea ......... PLUS there's a thumb stick on that left hand too.
This might be kind of cool - we'll have to see - either way I'm very happy there's anaccelerormormotoorotoergyrocombogoatsegryro thingo in BOTH devices - v.cool.

I don't know why, but that classic controller caught my attention. I think I might actually get a Wii and have it CO-EXIST with my 360.
Their pictures and the design of the Wii is almost Apple-like...and I like it. The best thing is the rumored low pricetag, which will only make it easier to get one and use it as a little NES/SNES arcade system with a few Wii titles thrown in.
I'm not a fanboy of any kind....but things are looking dim for Playstation 3... it's BAD when I'd consider a Wii over a Playstation 3, and I'm a hardcore Xbox/PC gaming guy who has no interest in GameCube or DS, but I'm really looking forward to Wii now.

The demostration of Wii Sports really excites me in getting my three year old playing Nintendo games (figuring she loves Mario), the hardware looks really fun, the classic SNES controller is definitely is for the back catalog...I'm really hoping the price point is going to be nice.

It's gaming hardware disguised as mainstream consumer electronics, with an Apple slant.
