Killing Floor hits a million sales, discounted on Steam
Jam Live Music Arcade announced for PS3, Xbox 360
Metal Gear Online to quietly die this summer
Looks great, it's Splinter Cell with Knights by the looks of it. I've seen it announced for the PS3 but apparently it's also coming out on the 360 but under a different name but I can't find that anywhere, and the site www.assassinscreed.com doesn't load :(
Anyone know what the 360 version is going to be called?

I know lots of developers troll Shacknews (local and not), and there are also lots of non-pros that are talented and looking to get into games.
We're pretty much staffing up in all areas (level design, programming, engine/rendering, modeling, etc). So if you're interested, in any position, send me a resume or portfolio at: georgeb@3drealms.com
Just put up a programmer ad on Gamasutra, and will be putting up more ads soon.

Ok shack, sorry for the delay but as their office is obviously getting for E3 it reviewing my entirely unofficial exposure to the game was low on the list.
At any rate, as a follow up to my post from yesterday, http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=12070243 , I'll post the more detailed write up of the actual game in reply.

God this makes me want to play FFVII for like the 1119th time. I think that's the game I've wasted more of my life on than any other, with the possible exception of Counter-Strike. I guess you might evenm say it's My Favourite Game.
What's yours?

Back in the day (which for me was yesterday), you could do shit with a mechanical mouse like a rapid flick and lift that would keep the ball rolling a bit while you moved the mouse the opposite direction to get more real estate on the mousepad. Now strange shit is happening to me like being stuck looking down... I gotta lift the mouse a mile off the mousepad to gain new real estate to undo... otherwise I'm locked down unable to recenter mouse view argh :(.
But this new computer doesn't have a PS2 connector... so technology has advanced past me... holy fuck, I'm officially an old fart. I CAN'T ADJUST TO THESE MODERN TECHNOLOGIES!!!

I ws thinking about getting an exercise bike for home. I figured that if I can exercise and play 360 at the same time I might actually do it from time to time. I was told by co-workers that getting a single piece of equipment is pointless because within a few weeks your body gets use to it and it stops being effective. I think anything that burns calarioes and gets the heart rate up has to be good. Google is strangely silent on the issue.

I suck at seeing those stereoscopic images normally (It's a schooner!) but the lenses really helped me after I figured out how to use them right.
1. Hold the case about like the diagram in the middle of the booklet shows, looking through the lenses at the pictures in the book. The picture that isn't in the book isn't stereoscopic.
2. Move the lenses away from your face about 5-8 inches. Try not to focus on anything yet. Close your eyes if you have to.
3. Focus on something in the image(s) through the lenses. If nothing comes into focus, keep looking at the image and move the lenses in and out from your face a little bit.
4. Once something in the image comes into focus (eagle's claw, Maynard's hand, a purple spot next to a yellow spot), maintain focus on that spot and slowly move the lenses toward your eyes.
5. The rest of the image should come into focus. You know you're doing it right if your peripheral vision catches full-size images just outside the margin of the 3D image. Also, you'll see a 3D image.
Until I held it away from my face a bit all I did was make myself sea-sick. Hope this helps!
XOXO

I created a streamlined installation with nlite, now I want to burn that iso to a dvd. How do I do that in Nero? If I go to burn image to disc it tells me it needs a cdr/rw not dvd, and nero is set to use dvds when I start it. Any help appreciated.

I'm trying to automate the saving of this:
http://www.pretentiousname.com/rb/theme_green.html
into all the individual image files for each component.
It's a bit like saving mouse-over stuff for the web, which I know PS/IR can do fine, except that each component could have more than 2 states. For example, I need to save 10 or so different versions of the volume bar. (For 0% volume, 10% volume etc.)
I can't work out a way to automate this so I've either got to spread out all the components so I can cut them into slices (which means I can no longer see how they look together) or I've got to toggle the layers and save each state manually every time I save a new version.
I'd like to save out lots of colour schemes but if I have to save each one manually I think I'll go crazy.

"Oh, and this is for maintenance only not a dashboard upgrade as many people think."
That is fucking lame. We pay for Xbox Live and they take it down completely about twice a month for maintenance... What the fuck kind of maintenance do they need to do on it that takes so many hours each time?
Even for an upgrade, it should be a case of shutdown the existing servers (or programs), do whatever updates or database-copying is required, then start up the new ones. A couple of hours max. Then test the new stuff is all installed correctly and working for an hour or so, I guess. 3 hours to do an update. Not all day and certainly not for maintenance.
I used to do the software-updates for about 60 servers at work while someone else handled the database updates. We normally updated the database first, then rolled the software, so we didn't have to rollback the software if there was an issue with the DB update, so we had to do the two in series rather than parallel. Even then it usually only took 4 hours or so, and this was an internal system that could happily be down all weekend until people in Asia started waking up, not something that external customers want to use 24/7.
On top of that, I want my background downloading alfuckingready, thanks.
