Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends GONE GOLD
by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 26, 2006 10:16am PDTMicrosoft sends along word that the Rise of Nations sequel Rise of Legends has gone gold. The game will be in North American stores May 9. You can find a singleplayer demo at FileShack.
The RTS gameplay of "Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends" has been improved for a more rewarding experience – gamers have the choice of drawing out battles for multiple hours for the classic RTS feel or focusing on shorter, 20-minute, campaigns. As the second installment of the "Rise of Nations" franchise, "Rise of Legends" also extends the gaming experience using a 3-D engine with dynamic lighting, deformable terrain, destructible buildings, ground-rattling earthquakes and massive armies locked in enormous strategic battles. "Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends" combines cutting-edge, industry-leading technology with awe-inspiring art design to create environments unlike anything ever seen.

On Friday (April 28th) a new optimized demo for Rise of Legends is slated to be released that will contain new content and a complete new map "Battle for the Core". You'll find a drastic difference in the level of performance and AI presented in the new demo, and I encourage you to give it a try.

p.s. - To the person with the smoking video card, that sounds like a definite hardware problem. The spontaneous shut-downs are probably hardware cooling related as well. You probably want to check the status of your cooling fans and heatsinks really well.

I can't wait

Other than my one small problem of the demo crashing my computer, which I fixed, I thought the demo ran fine on my system (6600gt, 2500+). How odd that lots of people are bitching about performance.

I can safely say, now, that if you liked Rise of Nations, that you'll enjoy Rise of Legends. The game has improved so incredibly much since that beta demo that it's hard to even believe that the demo ever existed. If you had interest in the game until you saw the beta demo and were disappointed... Then I think that you'll find that this upcoming demo will really change things around for you.
