by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 21, 2006 8:04am PDTWell, I'm about to hit the sixty hours played mark when it comes to Oblivion. Pretty much a record when it comes to singleplayer games for me, and probably more than most multiplayer games I've spent with aside from Duke Nukem 3D, Quake 2 & 3 and the Unreal Tournament series too. So much cool stuff to see and do, it remains incredible. Movie: Bitches, come.

What are your prized gaming possessions?
Mine would be the Rez "Complete Intoxication Set."
http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20011015/rez.jpg
Only 500 were created, and originally went for about $120 each. Through truly divine fortune, I found one in a bargain bin for about $30!
In addition to the trance vibrator, it includes a t-shirt featuring the first form, a couple of stickers, eye drops (don't ask me why), a wrist band, and...vibrating headphones! With these and the regular trance vibrator, Rez becomes a near total body experience.
As for more vintage prized possessions, I'd say my small collection of Sierra/LucasArts adventure game manuals. Oh, and my Wing Commander manual/fighter blueprints!

Silent Hill Full Gameplay Video's
Dunno if roushimsx did these or what (http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=12015901) but if anyone wants to help pass them around, feel free...
Here are the video's, in torrent format:
http://pupismyname.shackspace.com/sh/SH1.torrent
http://pupismyname.shackspace.com/sh/SH2.torrent
http://pupismyname.shackspace.com/sh/SH3.torrent
Give them a go... they'll be slow, but should work, and will be active for a while. They're huge files, so I don't see anyone throwing them on a straight-download server.

I was down in Gallagher Park - the park was flooded, and some delapidated playground equipment had been erected in the waterlogged valley.
Anyhow, for some weird reason, I was supposed to kill someone, and I had to do it with a paintbrush, so I could leave a note that said: "A brush with death," so I left the park and started walking down the Whitemud so I could get a paintbrush. But then I remembered I had a paintbrush in my inventory, so I grabbed it and went back into the park.
However, as I entered the park, some boy was hanging around, all threatening to kill himself.
I was like: "No! Don't kill yourself, that's terrible!"
He looked at me, and his arms slumped to his sides, all dejected-like.
I went over to comfort him, but this cute seal moved inbetween us, and I got distracted.
Someone screamed: "ALLIGATOR!"
So everyone ran out of the waterlogged pit except for me, because I wanted to save the seal.
The depressed boy who wanted to kill himself hung around, as well. I think he wanted to bug the alligator.
Anyhow, as I was trying to haul the seal away to higher ground, the alligator started swimming around the depressed boy. The boy held out his hand to the alligator, and the alligator took the bait, and slammed his gnarled jaws down upon the boy's arm. Except...nothing happened. The alligator, it turns out, was noncorporeal, and the boy was safe.
I think the boy was pretty distressed, though, as he started to whine and moan, but I was like: "Good thing. Now I can get the seal to safety more easily!"
So, I dragged the seal up on top of a really high piece of playground equipment, and pulled a flashlight out, and shone it around.
There was this huge, run-down playground construction right across from me, and it had this deep pit underneath it. I looked at it rather uneasily, and a sense of trepidation overcame me.
I knew instantly that there was a huge shark inside there.
I aimed the flashlight into the pit, and sure enough, the shark's beady eyes peered from the dark morass.
Not knowing what to do, I threw the flashlight into the pit. The shark ravenously gobbled it up, and I knew he was hungry. There was no way in fuck I was going to let him have the seal, though.
I told the depressed boy to leave the water, but he wouldn't listen to me, so I kept on trying to throw things at the shark to keep him away from the boy.
At this point, I realized that it would be worse if the boy was eaten rather than the seal, so I shoved the seal into the water, and the shark lunged at the poor seal, and consumed it in one gulp.
"QUICKLY! GET OUT OF THE WATER," I said to the boy. But he did not listen, and the shark zoomed in.
The boy looked to the shark with a laconic grin, sighing as the shark took a sizable bite out of his torso.
"Great," I said. "Look what you've done."
The shark finished off his meal, and started to swell to enormous proportions. He grew legs, and arms, and he clambered to an upright, bipedal position.
All of a sudden, a whole bunch of dinosaurs popped out of the water, and they started to bulid a city from the delapidated playground equipment. The man-shark was now acting like a construction foreman, directing the dinosaurs to his vicious will.
But then all of the people rushed from their hiding spaces, and started throwing bricks at the shark and dinosaurs. The shark and dinosaurs all cowered in fear, and tried to shield their heads/faces from the onslaught of bricks, and they jumped into an empty river-bed they had created.
The people came to the empty river bed, and started throwing bricks down onto the dinosaurs/shark until it was full, and the dinosaurs/shark were all dead.
Then my dream ended.
What the fuck does it mean?

why didn't you guys tell me silent hill 1 sucked and i should have went straight into silent hill 2? sh2 is scarier in the first 10 minutes than sh1 was at any point.
the only mildly redeeming part of sh1 was the cgi cut scene where lisa's head started bleeding. other than that, the whole game was shit. it wasn't scary, the story didn't make sense, and the voice acting was hilariously bad.
is the sh movie based on sh2? or does it borrow from multiple games? i noticed several of the character names on imdb match those in the first game, but others don't. plus i know the movie has the pyramid head guy, who i just saw for the first time in sh2. he wasn't in sh1 at all. someone educate my ass.
also, would the gameplay videos for silent hill 3 be worth watching if i enjoy the videos for sh2?

To people complaining about the leveled system in Oblivion, I think they should check out Oscuro's mod. It's pretty amazing. He basically applies level caps to all different kinds of NPC in the game, from villager to bandits to guards etc.
Makes a lot more sense. Now as you level up, guards aren't super powerful. They're still strong, but if you're like level 25, they're not right up there with you and you therefore become more significant. Bandits also stay at a relatively low level and they stick with their leather armors and what not, instead of glass.
There are just so many changes to it, in addition to those few I mentioned, you really should check it out. Changes the game a lot, but for the better I think.
Check it out here:
