Ubisoft Seems To Drop Starforce Support

I had no problems with Starforce until just a few weeks ago. I had Splinter Cell:CT installed on my box, which (as far as I am aware) is the only game I have with starforce. I decided to uninstall, went through all the normal uninstall procedures, and everything seemed fine. Then a few days later, Oblivion came out, and in my extensive efforts to tweak my FPS in it, I took a look at my hidden device drivers. Sure enough, the starforce drivers were still on my system, and still active. I had to go through the process of deleting each of the three active drivers, restarting each time I deleted one of them.

I consider any program that installs itself and has no obvious method uninstalling it to be malicious. If you have ever had and uninstalled a Starforce'd game on your computer, you better double check to make sure the program is still not running on your system.

Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager > Select "View" in the toolbar, and click "Show Hidden Devices" > Look under the "Non Plug-and-Play" devices

Has there ever been any direct evidence of Starforce causing any problems? I think it's hilarious that this company may be fucked over a witch trial. But with the way they handled things immaturely, i don't care if they burn out.

yes, yes omg, after we talked about starforce NOT being on oblivion and how relieved I was of this... I thought the only time I remember dealing with that stupid software was for my recent Splinter Cell games.

I actually uninstalled them because I hated that software so much...

I hope the new leet-looking co-op versions of this game coming out dont have it... maybe ill just ps3 it anyways.

This is good news. Shame they weren't forced into recalling the products and issuing replacements like Sony were.

Clearly Starforce will have to post torrent links to pirated Ubisoft games in their forums now.

Now JoWood needs to do the same thing so my Gothic will be saved.

I never had any problems with Starforce games (and I have plenty) but I see this as great news. After what happened with Stardock, Starforce doesn't deserve the money of anybody.

Let's hope Ubisoft starts releasing patches to remove the Starforce protection from their currently Starforce-protected games.

Looks like the Starforce assholes developers are going to be looking for a new job. This made my day...hell, it just made my whole week.

I'm interested to know what kind of copy protection they're switching to. If it's something that is still capable of borking up my rig, then Ubisoft games will remain anathema to me. Still, it's encouraging to hear that one of Starforce's biggest supporters is dropping them like a bad habit.

Good move Ubisoft.... !! Here I am with my newly upgraded machine, downloading demos...and avoiding all the Ubisoft games because of the Starforce scare.
