Brisk Sales For Oblivion
by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 10, 2006 7:19am PDTBethesda sends along this press release, announcing that all the hype and critical acclaim for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is translating into big sales. So far 1.7 million units of the game have shipped to stores, and the RPG has become the fastest selling game released on the Xbox 360.
The NPD Group Inc reports Oblivion PC as the best selling PC game, while the Oblivion Collectors Edition is ranked number 2. NPD reports that Oblivion represented approximately 13% of all PC game sales in the first week of its release, more than four times the sales volume of the next best selling title. (The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, the highly-regarded predecessor to Oblivion, remains one of the top 25 best selling PC games nearly four years after its release, according to NPD). European results have been similarly strong with Oblivion quickly becoming ranked the number one selling title in the UK, Germany and France.

I told the UPS guy that I've got a gun and shackers taught me how to use it. If he wanted it he could try and take it from my cold, dead hands.
Nah, I just told him that I'm not giving them my shit back and if he tries anything I'll snap his neck, Sleepy style.

What do I spend all my pay on first? A new CPU or Videocard? What do you think will give me the best performance hit before I get the other? I'll get them like 2 weeks apart. I’ll stick with a higher end AMD CPU but a higher end ATI card doesn’t worry me.
Any advice would be appreciated, now I have to go back to work to pay for this shit.

Read this with great caution. This announces sell-in numbers, not sell-through numbers.
There is a huge difference. Sell-in means that Bethesda has shipped 1.7 million units to stores, but, and this is a big but...it doesn't mean that those copies have, or ever will, sell.
So, as much as this seems like a good thing, there may much less sell-through (the actual numbers of copies that are sold to customers). Which will be a problem later on, as copies sit on shelves, retailers get annoyed, and then return the product to the publisher, who then takes a hit.
I'll be impressed when Bethesda manages to break 1 million sell-through on a nichy RPG like this. In the meantime...this announcement means little.

I realize they'll likely have a different team altogether working on the new Fallout, but here's a big what-if.
Personally, hell yes.

"Well I should be going then."
"Good Bye!"
I'm paraphrasing, but it was a great touch, I thought. Why wouldn't there be conversations where an NPC has nothing to say?
