What's up on this Sunday ladies and gents Movie: When you close your eyes, is it hell you see?

  • PC Sound/Dolby Question

I finally hooked up my sound card via toslink to my home theater receiver, but I can't seem to output anything in Dolby Digital format. I've set the appropriate options to enable the digital output in my card configuration, and I'm using MPC to playback the file. When I selected SPDIF output (in MPC) I get no sound, much less a Dolby Digital signal :(

I thought it would be a little easier than this. I've even tried VLC but can't seem to get digital output either.

GSpot identifies the audio in the file as dolby_ac3, and I've set speaker output in AC3Filter to SPDIF as well. What do I need to do to get this working? Any insight would be helpful.

  • Avi and Windows Media Player issue

There's this dual monitor setup where the desktop spans across. The application I was trying to use (video editing software) wasn't coming up properly on the second monitor so I started playing around with the Nvidia Desktop Manager software and eventually got what I wanted.

A few hours later I double-clicked on an .avi file and it played -- while I was playing I double-clicked on the same or another avi file ( I can't remember) and wmplayer.exe sat at 100% CPU usage and the player didn't come up at all.

It's been doing this ever since. I tried a system restore, new video drivers, re-installing WMP 10 but still no-go.

    Anyone have any ideas?
