As promised, a singleplayer demo for Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends is now available. The 620mb download features campaign and skirmish modes, and can be played as one of the game's three races. Thanks GameSpot.

  • Wow....

i'm not sure where to start, I loved and played the hell out of RoN. Dawn of War and RoN were the 2 best strategy games in years, since the Warcraft/starcraft/ta days.

This game is probally going to be just as great as RoN, but there are some problems.

The game was fast, no slow downs, loading was ridiculously long (computers get faster and faster but loading times get longer, wtf mate?). I was just playing my first game, about an hour into it dominating the enemy my computer locks up, blank screen, I had to turn it off and it wouldn't turn on until I unplugged it for awhile. Thats never happend to me before, over heating?

Theres an imaginary line in my head, Games with too little units/tech/building and games with too much of it are both bad. RoL goes beyond the latter, pisses on it, beats it to death, walks away, beats it some more and spooges all over it and beats it to death again. I can't even comprehend how many upgrades, units, buldings there are... for all sides. I think this is way overboard. Too much tech, upgrades, "unit abilitys", buildings, units, etc.

I see the obvious RoN influence but this game is very very different. I'll probally be buying it.

  • It's still a beta demo and quite buggy but it is promising. The game seems pretty damn complex which is a good thing. There are dozens of stuff to do: research, upgrading your city, constructing buildings and capturing neutral towns. The clicking doesn't stop there because you have all those power to use, heroes to control, prototypes to build etc.

I thought I had done it all when I clicked my research building building and got another dozen different options. You can turn your facility into a bunker, a super cannon, a mine, statue, factory + couple other choices. You really get overwhelmed quite easily because you really don't know what should you do in different parts of the game but I guess it's something you just have to learn.
