Galactic Civilizations 2 Demo Released

As promised, a demo for Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords is now available. The 173mb download allows you to play as the Humans against three other races for about 140 turns. The turn-based strategy game sequel is currently in stores and also available through Stardock's TotalGaming.net.

I bought this game and it only held my attention for a couple of days. I felt a bit conned paying full price for it.
Games like this have been around for ages and it's no more sophisticated than Civilisation II with a mediocre 3d graphics engine.
It has some nice bits in it but for me it's the same old, same old with new packaging.

i bought this game because i absolutely LOVED the original, i used to play the crap out of it back in the day, it was one of the few 'new' games back then that would run on my pc... but fucking oblivion has usurped my videogame time and i havent even had a chance to play this.

I tried to like this game I really did. I started playing the tutorials, and about 15mins in, i started nodding off. I was like, well im just really damn tired. And I went and took an hour nap! I came back, started up where i left off, and about 10 mins in, i started nodding off again! I dont know, maybe this just isnt for me, but you cant just jump in without playing a tutorial or something, its too damn hard. I'll try it again sometime.

For me, this is a great game, but very hard to get into. The non-interactive tutorial created a massive learning curve that I would've otherwise had no issues with. I would've been very pleased if Stardock took some cues from the Civ4 tutorial. Since this was the first GalCiv game I played, the learning curve was quite steep.

I'm just curious if I'm the only person that ran into this same issue...

If you are on the fence with this game, then don't hesitate to download the demo. If you are even semi-into 4XTBS then this game is the shit, plain and simple.

Do yourself a favor and give it some PT, you won't regret it. This IMO is the true successor to MoO2. Not quite MoO2, but its definately better than anything else produced after it!
