People can download the game for free and try the AI practice mode, play a tutorial or take on their friends on a LAN. If you want go online, or build a character and save stats, you will have to purchase the game.
"We pride ourselves on being truly independent and basing many of our decisions on how our fans will benefit," said Marc DeForest, co-founder and lead designer of S2 Games. "By offering a fully functional game as a free download, it will give gamers an opportunity to 'test drive' Savage 2 before actually paying for an account and playing online. For one thing, I hope that you are careful about this demo...what I'd do...include both races, disable at least 1/2 of the guys for each race, and also disable at least 2/3 of the unit abilities, and cap the max lvls by at least half the maximum lvl, and of course, at least half the weapons, including disabling the most powerful weapons of each class, and of course, making sure that the content isnt even included in the demo so that it cant be enabled by hacks and thus turning into another "savage 1 demo" where they are satisfied to the point where they dont buy it.
I may be overreacting more or less, but I want it to be a successful game, and want to see a lot of people on the full version servers, not 95% of them on the demo servers :(
please dont make the same mistake twice. Its always a good idea to leave them itching for more. I just want the game to be successful, nothing less.
btw...what exactly do you guys mean by "build a character" and "save stats online"? please say that the stats part has to do with saving commander records and showing them when we vote for a commander...I know that commanders wont be AS vital as in the first game, but its always nice to know that you have a reliable commander with a good track record, and not one who doesnt know what he is doing after being a commander for 10+ games in a row.
And for "build a character," does that include the whole weapon/spell/item/unit buying/Lvling up? not completely sure what you guys meant by that. please clarify :)
sorry for such a long post :) please reply, and GL with the game...been delaying with preordering for too long...going to do that by Friday latest :)

Still, I can see why you wounldn't want to release a multiplayer demo. In the case of Savage 1, people were so satisfied with the multiplayer demo that they never felt the need to buy the full game, hehe. Double-edged sword I guess. Good luck with however this goes!

I hope it pans out for them better this time around, Savage had some wonderful concepts. If they can enhance the melee and add more depth to the strategic aspects of the battle, it could be an awesomely fun game

Hi five, s2jason!
shit, 4300s PRL? holy crap this things for real. wtf. guess i'll go take a piss.
I hope this team has a lot of success- this is the future of PC gaming.
I can't wait to see if bold moves like this (akin to Stardock's lack of CP for GalCiv2) continue to pay off or not. The GalCiv2 maneuver and this one are being recieved well, but in the long run will people continue to pay?
