Demon's Souls servers extended again
There were some changes they made that were probably necessary due to time constraints, however, there were other changes that were totally unneeded:
Many of the complaints involve the chief inspector, Eric Finch, and the government's virus. They changed a lot about his character, added that whole virus plotline, removed much of the investigative plotline. He really lacked the characterization that he had in the book.
They totally made it obvious that it was V who kidnapped Evey. Even if I hadn't read the books, I would have known it was him (they showed the woman with the distinctive scars on her face writing the letter as Evey read it, plus they made it 100% obvious that the flowers in the letter were the sames ones V used). I don't understand why they have to "dumb it down" for the audience, it ruins any element of surprise and made the whole scene boring once you knew it was him.
Likewise, Evey's confession to the priest totally messed up her character. Even prostitute Evey didn't break down like that. And that's another thing, why change the whole basis of her character, if you're going to attack the moral fiber of the government so much, you might as well have your lead actress start out as a whore, just like the book.
And speaking of morals, I have no idea why they took out the LSD scene. It didn't make sense, and I think would have made the lead detective's "insights" more plausible.
They took out Fate (the computer), which took out one of the most fantastic moments in the book when Adam Susan (the leader) was crying in front of the screen with the huge V on it.
The whole love subplot was complete Hollywood crap.
The throngs of people walking with masks were totally unrealistic, there's no way that many people would amass like that. The book had probably 100-200 people.
Evey never put on the mask, which really really didn't make sense, since they totally drove the point home in the beginning that Evey was a reflection of V (completely overplayed considering it was the first two minutes of the movie).
Oh yea, could they beat you over the head with the America stuff anymore?
All the other changes made sense, and were pretty reasonable. I understand for time why they had to merge the Fingermen, plus it was actually a bit muddled in the book, and would have weighed down the movie. Evey not getting involved in a second relationship made sense too, both for time, and making the story more simple.
Overall, pretty good movie, 7.5-8.0 / 10.

Let's say I was contacted by someone who wanted to sell a high profile domain name to me at a reasonable price. We both agree by email the 27th of February; they're selling to me.
What I didnt know at that time is that they forget they were running an auction for the domain on tdnam.com. High bidder gets pissed when he's told that they have to cancel the auction (AFTER the auction has ended). Threaten legal action. The seller bends over and cancel MY deal, even tough he'll be selling to this guy for less.
Anything I can do? The seller would rather sell it to me, but they're afraid of legal actions etc.

So my questions: Anyone read these Halo books and are they good? Also, why aren't there Duke Nukem books? I would read those, and so would you. I wanna read one bad. So I decided that if no one else is writing one, then I would have to. But I couldn't sell them because that would infringe on the game's IP rights, even if I don't use any of the game's textures. So I would have to give it away. But only to Shackers. So my next question, if I wrote a Duke Nukem story would you guys read it? I won't use .pdf!
Thanks approx. 8 minutes in advance,
XOXOX,
Truman

I'm getting 4400 3DMarks (I know, it's a crappy benchmark but it's good to know "approximately" how good your machine is)
Just wondering if that's right? I'm seeing posts @ 3Dmark website in the 6000 mark range for the same specs?

Spring break starts today for me (I'm a teacher), and my wife has to work today and tommorrow and I have Oblivion in my possession. You know what that means. Two 10 hour marathon playing sessions. I haven't had the opportunity to sit down with a game this way in a long time and I'm really looking forward to it.
Most of my gaming time comes in one-two hour spurts most of the time nowadays what with work, school (getting my Master's), married life, etc. So having the time to sit down and just play uninterrupted is a real treat for me.
Not to mention, games (especially big, epic RPGs like Oblivion) are sometimes alot more enjoyable if you can just sit down and dive into them for hours at a time. I know when I was younger, high school/college, I used to do it fairly regularly. The last game I really dove into was HL2, before that I'm not sure. I don't think I could do it as often now anyway, I've just got other things I want to do with my time. However, every now and then a game like Oblivion comes along and I'm just glad that I have the opportunity to really dig into it.
So three cheers for marathon gaming sessions! And if you're at work: suckers! ;)

I found a couple guides online (ended up using the old on on Ars) and they worked to a T. BUT! Whenever I adjust the wheel to raise the laser, it always goes back to it's default position whenever I insert a disc. I can't get the laser to stay at the position I set it at.
Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm going to purchase 2 more 400gb's but SATA models.
Then I'm going to isolate which 400gb is making the CHUNKY FLAP CLICK noise and I'm going to be an asshole and sell it.
Note, it's been doing this for 6+ months
it has no bad sectors
it passes smart tests
it passes seagate's official HDD tests
it has no performance issues across the entire surface from what I can see.
but that clickety noise = :(
i've always wondered why these animals live so long. WHY CAN'T WE HARNESS THIS POWER?

Also, the mouse takes all the fun out of it. I would like to bind the x axis to roll and then be able to adjust the sensitivity so I can roll like Blade in Blade 3.

All these years... this game still holds up. It's SO fun. Come across some guys, quicksave, kill, quickload, repeat. I swear to christ there's certain sequences I could replay for hours.
One where these two cleaners walk in front of you in the hallway (in the slummy apartments) and one talks about how "this is the finale, right before the credits roll", and when you turn the corner there's THREE of them. But when you wax the last of the three, it goes into a slow-motion death. I could play that over and over and over and over.
Another one would be when you kill Kaufman by the elevators. That little battle is so much fun.
"Find him. Take care of him."
Such an awesome sequence... they spend a little time preparing you to expect to meet him, and when you do, it's one of the most awesome gun battles in either game.
I really really really hope Max Payne 3 holds a candle to the first two (most notably 2)... because while these games might not be among "THE GREATEST EVER", in my opinion, Max Payne 2 is damn near perfection in and of it's self.
