It's now official: Dell has bought Alienware, making the company an independent subsidiary of Dell. According to a story on FiringSquad, Alienware CEO and co-founder Alex Agulia says him and co-founder Nelson Gonzales have taken the company as far as they can on their own, and now look for Dell to help the company grow and improve further.

They have already said that alienware will continue to produce all of their own stuff and they will handle all of their own support. so pretty much dell just wants the cash for that market. given that its a good deal for customers since dell gets good prices on hardware so prices will probably drop for the same products. the moral of the story is: if you like alienware now that's great since that's what they will be in the future.

Wow, this was something I had not even heard any rumors of (not that I have been actively listening)...

Just very surprising to me and I'm curious to see where it will end up. I think it is good that the gaming industry is obviously becoming much more mainstream...

This makes sense for Dell. Now that the average office computer can be a $500-700 system, they need to look to servers and gaming systems for higher margins.

Alienware gives them some namebrand in gaming highend...although from all that I have experienced firsthand with their machines it is undeserved.
