CPU Roundup, Where is 800mhz?

Chiptesters is back in action and they have an updated Chipwatch to celebrate the occasion. If you're in the market for a new CPU (who isnt?) it's worth a look. You should also have a look at the Siliconnews Athlon vs P3 price guide. On top of that, GForces.net has a new article taking a look at the Intel Coppermine CPU. Anyone wondering where the heck those 800mhz P3 CPUs are? Intel announced those things like a month ago and I still dont see any. Lastly, iXBT has a new preview of the Transmeta Crusoe CPU, since the CPU is more targetted at laptops than hardcore gaming rigs you probably wont see much more coverage of this.

  • #10, you got it. But ATM Intel\'s 500/550E chips have the best bang for the buck. The shit Intel pulled with VIA (and the motherboard wait in general) has me waiting for the .18/diecache Athlons as well. Only problem is that a few months down the road the price/performance for 750 athlons and up might not be so hot since they won\'t be able clock up as much. Who knows though, as AMD will probably have the lower pricepoint and Intel will no doubt continue to up the price of their 500E\'s to make sure they don\'t give away another celery300a.

  • Couldn\'t find anything about AGP 4x performance on Anands or Toms Hardware (search as I might). Anands had some articles on MB\'s using the VIA Apollo pro 133 chipset (the one Intel is sueing them over). Was unable to find anything about performance gains, but they did mention there are a few conflicts with AGP4x with certain video cards, and something about Windows not installing for the FIC KX-11 with the 133FSB setting.

Makes me wonder if Intel\'s lawsuit isn\'t just about violating a contract, but releasing a chipset that just plain sucks. After all, bad motherboards mean bad sales for Intel...
