CPU Roundup, Where is 800mhz?
by Steve Gibson, Jan 24, 2000 3:30am PSTChiptesters is back in action and they have an updated Chipwatch to celebrate the occasion. If you're in the market for a new CPU (who isnt?) it's worth a look. You should also have a look at the Siliconnews Athlon vs P3 price guide. On top of that, GForces.net has a new article taking a look at the Intel Coppermine CPU. Anyone wondering where the heck those 800mhz P3 CPUs are? Intel announced those things like a month ago and I still dont see any. Lastly, iXBT has a new preview of the Transmeta Crusoe CPU, since the CPU is more targetted at laptops than hardcore gaming rigs you probably wont see much more coverage of this.

Uh, although it is about Intel selling more of thier own chipsets, the lawsuits isn\'t about stopping the KX133, which is the Athlon chipset. The chipset in question is the Apollo Pro, support for Celery and PIII. Here\'s the article:

What made you guys think I was talking about the Athlon? The Athlon motherboard produced by FIC is the SD-11, not the KA-11. The KA-11 motherboard has the new Apollo Pro chipset for INTEL processors. (fat fingered the last post, should have been KA not KX)
Compatibility issues with th KA-11 aren\'t PNP, here\'s the article at anands:

able to sell the chipset for Athlon mobo\'s. The lawsuit applies to both P3 supporting and
Athlon supporting VIA AP pro chipsets.
btw- VIA\'s Apollo Pro chipset is gonna be nice chipset. There are always a few conflicts with some PnP hardware, but is almost always fixed with a bios update.
\'magic fingers\' time. Gonna crank \'dat fat bastard up to 1 gig. Gonna cost less
than $1000 bucks.
Its all good. :)
but till then its CELERY
Makes me wonder if Intel\'s lawsuit isn\'t just about violating a contract, but releasing a chipset that just plain sucks. After all, bad motherboards mean bad sales for Intel...
So, has anyone picked up a board with AGP 4x on it yet, and if so, how\'s the performance gain - worth it?
I guess only OEM\'s have them so far in this country. HardOCP had pictures of them selling in Japan at a retail level so the damned things do exist, just not in quantity yet.
