2K Games sent out this press release announcing that the company will publish CivCity: Rome, a new Civilization spin-off that will focus on city building. Firefly Studios and Firaxis Games will team up to develop the game, which is due out this summer. Screenshots are here.

In CivCity: Rome, gamers will recreate the glory of Rome by building a small settlement into a mighty imperial city. Featuring hundreds of buildings including gladiatorial schools, amphitheatres, the circus maximus, legionnaire forts, weapons workshops and much more, CivCity: Rome offers the most detailed look at Roman life ever depicted on a computer screen.

It's interesting that all these games seem to depict Rome as a sort of museum of clean white marble buildings and clean, fairly empty streets, rather than as a colorful and dirty place inhabited by lots of people.

Firefly eh, those guy made Stronghold, which was a decent game. Sounds like this will be like the Caesar series.
