So, let me be the first to say: Shadowbane is not for everyone. It is first and foremost a PvP game, built around player conflicts. We have never, ever catered to the PvE crowd. The PvE we do have is minimal, and players after Level 40 can level solely through PvP Combat (http://chronicle.ubi.com/newspost.php?id=14008).
Anyhow, like I said, it is a PvP game. In it, anyone can be your friend but, at the same time, anyone can be your enemy. If you happen to be interested in trying out the game, I would highly recommend checking out the following links first:

The above will give you a lot of necessary information. Now, I know some people will comment on the graphics. Truth be told, they aren't that bad but, by far, they are no Everquest2 (when it comes to detail) or WoW (when it comes to happy colors). Shadowbane is a dark, gritty world that is in chaos.
If you do try it out, I would also recommend these two articles which covers the Shadowbane Interface (which is a little more complex than many interfaces):

World of Warcraft, Everquest and Lineage all dominate, but that is only because they have huge followings. It seems harder and harder for a MMORPG to break out of nowhere and have huge success.
I am still a believer in online worlds...

I guess my monitor is old and just can't keep up with the modern hardware. :(
After the guild moved away from RP, the interest kinda died for me. The politics were interesting, but it was RPing such a cool race that really kept me there, since I'm not a PvP person.
The lore and story for Shadowbane are among the best I've read, and it really lends itself to creating some very interesting roleplay, with all the racial feuds and stuff... I actually think theirs is better than WoW's, even having grown up playing Warcraft games and 'seeing' most of the events in that world first hand.
Oh how I miss seeing rain bleeders piss themselves as 30 red skinned elves charged them screaming in a different language the second they left the safe city.
