So, in an effort to keep the internet (my precious!) when my upstairs roomie is moving out, we agreed to just transfer the account over to me. I go up, we call Comcast and give out my name, confirm addie, give new phone number, etc. The guy says all is good and that the internet will go down and then be back up in 15 minutes. I double check that we don't need to do anything, and the guy says nope.
I was surprised. I mean, that was the nicest experience I've ever had with Comcast. I even mentioned that to my upstairs roomie and he was surprised.
I knew it was too easy. >=(
2-3 hours later, still no internet. Roomie had run off and his room (with the router, modem, etc.) was locked. I wait (yay for ST:TNG reruns) and when he gets back we call Comcast again. After the frustration of IDing myself (no, I don't have an account # 'cause you guys didn't give it to me!) we then go about getting the router fixed. He has to confirm some more stuff, set me up with an e-mail account, and do some little dance with turning hte switch on & off. During this time, he puts me on 'hold' and forgets to mute while chatting up his female co-worker in the background. But he did manage to ignore/not hear me when I tried to let him know.
Now it is time to go through the whole power cycle dance. Only 15 times slower than when I do it. 'Cause this guy to the 30 seconds so seriously that it meant 2 minutes. For each Powering (modem, THEN router, THEN computer). And the ENTIRE time, the guy is FLIRTING with me (this is why I rarely call tech support. Bad enough when you know more than they do, worse when you are a chick and therefore considered worthless when it comes to net savvy).
Blech. Nasty Comcast. But now I have my precious back!

I spent about two hours today playing four player multiplayer so I figure I can give first impressions. It controls great, looks nice, plays very smooth. When pieces fall fast they don't lock into place for about a second so you can keep rotating or slide it down the side. Thats pretty neat I guess.
Push mode is really fun. It's kind of goofy at times when there is a nice tetris built up and both players wait for the other to 'close the gap'. I kept getting wrecked because my strategy just sucked. This mode is definately NOT who can place pieces the cleanest and faster like normal mode would be. So yeah, it's pretty fun.
From what I could see there is NOT a way to play multiplayer without the 'save piece' and 'see the next 6 pieces'. I was hoping for a classic no save see only the next piece mode. There really aren't that many options to begin with. Items on/off, handicap (just how fast they fall) and a team. I can't imagine 10 player being fun if everyone gets hit with 5 tetrises at once, but we only had 4 people so who knows.
Final line? Fucking awesome. I mean it's tetris dudes, you can't mess up tetris. It's regular tetris plus some cool puzzles and free extras. If you don't like them so what, you still get tetris. And if that isn't enough then GTFO. =D
Did not get Hunters so I can't comment on that. Oh yeah, items are completely hilarious. 'Star' gives you nothing but straight pieces for 10 seconds, banana horizontally flips the screen about a random row (holy crap it's confusing), and there is one that prevents everyone else from rotating blocks. No rotate + speed item (make their pieces drop fast) is quite awesome.

Things are getting Hard and it seems that what stands between me and the Face Melters is, well, No One Knows. I had some trouble at the Crossroads but managed to wield my axe just deftly enough to survive the encounter (having played the Ace of Spades gave me the edge). When the time comes I only hope I am strong enough to face Frankenstein or, worse yet, Godzilla.
Guitar Hero is awesome but I now have a serious case of Guitar Elbow that feels like a bad RSI :(
Oh yeah, cheapest place for 2nd controller?

It's about the dumbing down of audio in today's world.
http://www.audioholics.com/news/editorials/DumbingDownAudio.php
Here's a quick quote from the introduction: "We live in an amazing time. Science is making bigger and better tomatoes, continually perfecting synthetic materials to enhance our lives, while making electronics more compact, powerful and more affordable. So with all of this newfound power science has endowed us with, one would logically conclude that this has bettered our pursuit of audio nirvana... Well, not exactly. Despite our advances in science, one divine truth can always undermine us – marketing. Because of marketing, and lots of gullible people that fall victim to it, reality TV shows, pet rocks, and low-carb diets sell. People don’t need them, they don’t make a whole lot of practical sense, yet the demand is created. The same rings true with audio."

I'm looking for a FREE Texas Hold 'Em program that will allow me to play vs. another computer on a LAN; plus have the ability to play on the Internet as well. Also, as an added bonus it could have a tournament manager so you could run your own home games (managing blinds, payouts, etc.)
In my search for such a program I found DD Tournament Poker 2 but it isn't free. Any ideas? Even if the poker/tourney manager programs are seperate that would be fine.

At Shackmeet 2.0, I introduced my wife to the wonderful community of shacknews with the ulterior motive of convincing her of a shackmeet at our apartment. My sinister plan was successful, and therefore I am host the next NYC shackmeet at my apartment! dahanese and I have formulated a great plan, I hope you like it!
Unfortunately, my schedule is about to turn very ugly, so I wanted to get an idea of how many people would be able to come. My apartment is quite small, probably only accomodating a little over 10 guests.
FAQ:
When: Saturday, April 8th!
Where: My apartment in Manhattan
What is the plan:
- 46 inch DLP + DDR/Guitar Hero
- I was thinking each guest could bring a type of alcoholic beverage...thus allowing a variety of booze (or beer/wine) for different drinks. dahanese apparently has bartending experience, so her plus the power of the intranets = Drunken debauchery!
- I am also interested in if people wanted to have dinner too...I know a bunch of great delivery places, with pizza being my first choice.
Of course I make two promises: First, I promise to show up, because it is at my apartment. Secondly, I did put up some pictures recently so my interior decor, even though still stark, is improved.
At this point if you could shackmessage me if you are definitely coming, how many guests, and what booze you might want to bring, I can shackmessage you a final list!

I have the option of paying two ways with my current mortgage.
#1)Pay 12 times out of the year through direct payment, no charge
#2)Pay 52 times out of the year(but 4 payments equal 1 payment #1) and this will apparently build equity because the interest will get applied to the first payment. Also I have to make a dollar fee every time I pay.
#2 really doesn't make sense though, I am paying the same ammount of money but my equity builds faster. How the heck does it work though.

Honestly, even with rabbit ears, i'd be lucky to get like 4 or 5 channels. Everyone i know who wants to watch tv has basic cable at the very least.
What do these terms actually mean, and how does one determine if a channel is a 'cable' channel or a 'network' channel?

So does anyone have any idea what kind of copy protection is on the PC versions of Oblivion? If this has Starforce, I'm getting the 360 version for sure. Otherwise I think I might go with the PC version. I searched but couldn't find anything on it.

Thanks Cheapassgamer.com
OK, those of you looking for a good deal on pre-ordering Oblivion, this is it. Buy.com has a nice coupon for first-time shoppers where you can get $5 off a $50 purchase in music or videogames.
http://www.buy.com/retail/coupon.asp?prid=83125283&adid=17662
If you are not a first-time buyer from buy.com, I guess you could just create a new account?
And they also have a variety of reasonably priced Oblivion Pre-Orders with Free Shipping!
PC Collector's Edition $57.99
http://www.buy.com/prod/The_Elder_Scrolls_IV_Oblivion_Collector_s_Edition/q/loc/108/202242924.html
XBox 360 Collector's Edition $64.99
http://www.buy.com/prod/The_Elder_Scrolls_IV_Oblivion_Collector_s_Edition/q/loc/108/201968076.html
XBox 360 Regular $56.99
http://www.buy.com/prod/The_Elder_Scrolls_IV_Oblivion/q/loc/108/201968075.html
PC Regular Edition $47.99 (Doesn't qualify for $5 off coupon)
http://www.buy.com/prod/Elder_Scrolls_IV_Oblivion/q/loc/108/202242926.html
These are pretty sweet prices if you can afford to wait a few extra days for the probably slow shipping. I just got the PC Collector's Edition for $52.99 shipped, which is a Hell of a lot better than the $59.99 + Tax that you'd have to pay in store, not to mention the gas wasted driving there!
So there you have it--cheaper Oblvion for the win!

World Of Warcraft: $15.00
My steam account, $15.00
includes:
HL2 and all the goodies that come with it as welll as the orignal half life and the expansions.
Obviously steam is easy, I just give you the username and password. WoW you can also d/l the client if you wish and I can mail you the game should you want the hard copy (you pay shipping).
Both are outstanding games, I just no longer play them.
