by Maarten Goldstein, Mar 07, 2006 1:42pm PSTTech Report has a story up with details on Core, the new processor microarchitecture that Intel will be using for server, desktops, and mobile applications. One Core based CPU will be the Conroe desktop processor, which Intel says will be up to 40% faster than the Pentium D 950 while using 40% less power. Core-based products will come out later this year. Update: AnandTech has a Conroe preview with some nice looking benchmark numbers.

Likewise, many analysts had been predicting for awhile now that Intel would take a strong lead again performance wise the second half of this year with AMD lagging a bit behind until sometime next year. This release isn't really anything to surprising, it just backs up what insiders had been seeing/tracking for awhile now.
