First Post!

I'm totally with Apache, Act of War: Direct Action didn't get nearly enough love when it was released early last year. If you liked C&C Generals I don't see you not digging this game. I recently reinstalled it because the expansion pack High Treason is coming out later this month, and bought a friend a copy earlier this week. Already had a couple of fun multiplayer matches. Give it a shot if you're looking for a military strategy game! Also on FileShack

Had a chance to play a bit at lunch, and have been looking at the special features on the collectors edition disk throughout the afternoon. So far, it's pretty cool. I like how they were man enough to ditch the building scheme they had in the first game, and how the stepped up and added the ability to build walls and defenses anywhere. You don't get that in many RTS's (AOE being the exception that I can think of), so it feels kindof fresh. I was suprised when I built a wall, and some fucking goblins were actually able to CLIMB OVER... so it appears that walls alone wont be enough to cover your ass. Though I assume they keep the big stuff out.

The combat feels the same (which is a good thing for me)... its always satisfying to trample a bunch of infantry with some cavalry.

One thing I never got into in the previous game was the multiplayer. I might actually play MP with this one. A neat feature I saw mentioned in the special features was Create-A-Hero... I guess you can create a hero that looks like anything you want, and has a custom set of powers, which you can then take into MP with you. So you can't determine your gameplan based on which hero the enemy is using, since you don't even know what it's capable of until he's using his powers against you. I hope that feasture ends up being as neat as it sounds.

Also, there's a turn based risk-like strategy game built-in as well, with the option to resolve battles on the ground in real time. You play as 1 of 6 sides... not sure what they are... but theres a few different victory conditions. So I can see getting some mileage out of that.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. The collectors edition has a poster i could probably live without, but the DVD has some nice content on there. About a dozen segments with developers about the creation of the game. Was kinda neat seeing people I know in the vids. Wasn't expecting that.

After I get a little better, we'll have to have some shack battles... see how it holds up.
